ET source stuffed into a standard autoconf tree for Linux

Hi,

I’m all confused about this set of perl scripts and all the foo used to build the ET tree, so I’m in the process of re-factoring it into your everyday autoconf setup. That makes building and installing easier for me… it seems to build properly so far :drink:

I was wondering if SD or whoever has any problems with the source being re-packaged for us gnu/linux people. If there’s no problem then i can post a link to the tarball here later.

Hope Linux brothers like this idea :beer:

I’d suggest a rewrite to scons instead. http://scons.sf.net

I used cons and switched to scons later on ( a rewrite of the cons concepts in python, with tons of improvements ). Other things I do tend to use scons, GtkRadiant, and so will the Doom3 Linux and OSX mod code ( “when it’s out”, don’t ask ).

Feel free to do an autocrap build system if you want to, but personally I consider it’s a waste of time.

and also, 2 lines of python is too much python for me (just like 2 lines of perl) :wink:

In this case it definitely is a waste. The only strong point of autoconf is that it gives the code compatilbility to many weird kinds of Unix like Irix, Solaris, AIX, *BSD, and of course Linux.

But since the game server itself is only available on Linux, autoconf doesn’t provide anything of value.

well, in my case as i said i’m used to autofoo setup so i found myself doing ‘make’ and ‘make install’ all the time so i found this convenient :slight_smile: and it also helps me understand the code better since it’s more ‘manageable’ for me. But anyway, since no one seems to want, i’ll just keep it for myself :wink:

I would really love to get hold of that autoconf stuff if you have it knocking about… i’ve tried messing with autoconf before, but it’s a total nightmare…i was just gonna compile and link it by hand… or try and make a makefile, and that’s enough for me… i hate this cons stuff…
