It’s not that i mind that the map is way over the release date, it’s just that it looks so damn cool , i want to play it as soon as possible.
So how did the 2 weeks holiday go?

I´ve got some performence problems with my map…
I used structural and detail brushes as they are meant to but they are useless in the open air part of the map.
I think hints wouldn´t help, too. Isn´t there a way to optimize the performence yourself? I mean this automatic vis compiler isn´t bad for Buildings and so on.
I would like to do some triggerzones, which let parts of the map disappear. The problem is, that I want that these parts disappear only for the player. Not for everyone. Any ideas?

You’re wrong hint brushes do exactly what you want them to do. I think you should read more about them and the vis process in general. Search in this forum and I’m sure you’ll get plenty of good results. Hint brushes can be used just like regular brushes. I think you might have the misconception that they can only be placed vertically which is not true. There was a great example somewhere around this forum of how to hint a hill, and all you need to do is build a sort of box (more like a tent actually) with hint brushes around it. Anyway they’re what you need so study up more on it. Also if the players cannot reach certain heights you can use caulk brushes to create vis splits. Caulk is structural and is not visible so it works great for controlling height.

I forgot to mention this but that caulk will block light so use with discretion.

isn´t there an other texture, which has the same effect as caulk, but doesn´t throw shadows?

I might be wrong but to block vis = to block light

If you have some terrain, you can put some caulk inside hills to block (but make sure they don’t go over the terrain). If you have “steps” in your terrain, putting horizontal caulk will help too. It’d be like making huge rooms underground that will never be used. One way or the other, it works as I brought my tris count down significantly. Though as you can see in my other post, there are still some places where I have a high tris count.

just take ur time

what you could try (but make a backup of your map first) select everything in your map by pressing ‘I’ and make everything detail except from all brushes on the outside of your map, or brushes touching the ‘void’ for tech talk

The beta version of the map is almost finished. The first beta test is next friday. Sorry, but it will be a closed beta test, so no public beta version.
I wanted to do this first beta test today, but i had some problems with my many textures. I have a question to this:

The texture limit for a map is 512…I got 510 and there is still this error message. I wantet to know what kind of textures are counted. So do skins count to them, or how many textures does the fire texture count. Anyone any ideas?

AFAIK skin is a texture in itself though it’s composed of 1 image with mixed stuff (uses coordinates to skin a model) so I’d guess yeah it’s counted as a texture but … I can be wrong. It’s just an educated guess :slight_smile:

Now I´m at 492 textures and still get this f***ing error message. Isn´t there a possibility to see how many textures are used at the moment??? This is really depressing.

And yes, I´m still looking for beta testers.
