If you’re making an installer that does everything for you then I think it’s better to put 2.60b in there too… It only provides bug fixes for the client so I don’t see why it would be an advantage to stay on 2.55
Especially since with the 2.55+ server patch you can still play with your friends who have 2.55
to address your points
- removal of original WolfET.exe on the internet (most at least)
I don’t think this is going to happen, but why is it a necessity? If a few people still linger on 2.55 so be it + the 2.55+ server patch also solves this.
- removal of any master list resolutions that support 2.55
Again not really needed thanks to 2.55+, but it would be cool if the new master list could filter it the fake servers (if it’s not already doing this)
- removal of the etkey/punkbuster support for 2.55
Is it back? Though PB ditched ET before ID did.
- most the 2.55 server owners would have to comply
If their server start running dry I think they’ll catch on soon enough.
- a website, committee, and overall campaign towards 2.60b
A good idea and schnoog already suggested it too. On the other hand how are you going to make it globally known (so people will refer to that site rather than the 20 old ones)
When I started playing ET, I made a ZIP with 2.55 installer, patches and the All-Seeing Eye (R.I.P.). I guess it is still somewhere on eMule or P2P networks, since 2006… Or dead.
