ET running extremely slowly for no reason

So, one day I decide to boot up the game and find that everything is running at about 1 frame per 5 seconds. I can’t do anything in terms of interaction with the program; I’m forced to shut it down through the Task Manager. I haven’t changed anything in my computer and I’ve tried fresh reinstallations and even reinstalling Windows and getting a new hard drive. Still, the same problem. The program is fully updated as well.

then maybe if you twiddle with the antennes a bit it is fixed

No, not even that. The actual game itself is going slowly. The cutscene at the beginning is more like a slideshow.

Do you have a multicore processor? If so, force ET.exe on ONE cpu/core only. And what Nail said, give us a view on your specs.
