ET:QW E3 Demo Machines

What about AMD support?

Given that a majority of gamers play on AMD becuase of the well know advantage AMD have in games, will the game be optomised for AMD dual cores?

I’m sure it will run fine on AMD chips, especially the forthcoming AMD dual core chips. The only running model we have to base our opinions on, for the moment, are these Intel systems. We can say for sure that a P4EE can handle it. Many other chipsets will be up to the task, I’m sure, but we can only draw conclusions from those things of which we have data. Hence, the E3 systems are the only frame of reference we have, as high end frame of reference.

Well sort of, I understand the reason most games don’t support dual-core is because it’s a substantial amount of work, and not enough people have them. That will change eventually, especially because it seems that Intel is really pushing for dual-core use in games.

Err… what forthcoming “multicore” chips?

Well amd’s lead in gaming is coming to an end soon with the release of the intel “conroe” core duo chips. Am2 seems pointless so far for amd as the performance is either the same as 939 or slightly less than 939, they must have something up thier sleeves though.

dual core, i meant, just typo’d after discussing the P4EE

mmmmmmmm…multicore

you love it, reyal, just admit it…

Every OGL game I’ve has has been viciously CPU hungry. Just checked though and I notice that Doom3 does support D3D. But OGL is better anyway.

(Mordenkainen) #28

DOOM 3 does not support D3D, it does support DirectSound and DirectInput though.

Strictly speaking OGL is as much reliant on CPU as D3D, in fact, D3D has a bigger problem with small batches than OGL but anyway…

Any word on what the server(s) were ?

Well I’m good on the monitor… just bought a Samsung 204B 20" LCD.

My first LCD, decided to get a good one, and man does this thing rock. Bright and clear, with better color than my old 19" CRT. The screen seems huge in its little black bordered frame, making my current screen res (1024x768) fonts look big.

*not mentioning the rest of my crappy computer :disgust:
