ET open source code X Cheating

(Bludd) #41

It’s a borderline, gray area. If you can’t see that, I dunno what to say. It’s fine with me dude, I’m just saying that if a person is going to hack the ass out of their config to give them every possible advantage, they are at least to a certain degree thinking “like a cheater”, i.e., trying to use little tweaks and tricks to gain an upper hand over their opponent. AGAIN, I am not opposed to it and I DO IT TOO, but we need to be honest with ourselves, lol. When I hold a gun, I can see it and it’s muzzle flash. I can’t make it invisible, and I can’t reduce it’s recoil without modifying the weapon. I also can’t alter my field of view without some form of optical aid. I agree, they left cg_drawgun in the ET game menu, so it’s fair. I’m just pointing out that the CoD developers realized that this was a somewhat shady area, and decided to cheat protect it, since the performance gain isn’t large enough to deem it necessary for a low end machine. So obviously I’m not alone in my opinion; Infinity Ward agrees.

As I’ve said before on the forums, I use every possible cvar trick in the book, but if PB suddenly had mandatory forced game defaults, making every player have the exact same config or they get kicked, I would miss my scripts immensely, but I would welcome it, on the whole.

(bani) #42

the same bludd who wrote an opengl wrapper for et?

(pgh) #43

(pgh) #44

Found it heh. Pretty lame attempt…

Also found:

And several other posts on MPC.

(Kendle) #45

That’s unbelievable! I don’t know what disgusts me more, the fact someone on these forums is an (allegedly) open cheater (man I feel so dirty even crossing posts with the little shit), or this:- That’s not to say all clans cheat, just most do.

What fucking planet is this guy on, and what a sick way to justify himself (if this is true of course).

In 2 years of RTCW I only know of 2 Clan players using cheats. Both were promptly kicked from their Clans, and their Clans were promptly kicked from the competitions they were competing in at the time. Clan players almost NEVER cheat because they’ve got too much to lose if they get caught. Plus, top Clans compete at LANs where there are people standing behind them watching them to make absolutely sure they’re doing nothing wrong. Watch demos of the top Clans playing at QuakeCon (where an Admin sits behind every player) and demos of those same Clans competing in online tournies. Notice a difference in skill? No, because there isn’t any.

Man, little worms like this make my blood boil.

(pgh) #46

Let alone admins sitting behind someone, about 1000 on GTV/WTV and probs the same at the event watching it on huge screens… :]

(Sick Boy) #47

about the “intuitive” remark: this dumb kid probably forgets all about voice communication and spawntiming, which does not only tell you when the enemy spawns, but also when and where an enemy can be expected (if you play the game enough you’ll notice the patterns that always come back)

(pgh) #48

Fancy that! Spawntimers tell you when they spawn? :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeh I know what you mean tho… even things like being killed, most peeps instantly rush to the NME that just killed them :>

(ildon) #49

Back when I used to play TF like 8 hours a day, I had the timing for pretty much every class in all the popular maps down. I could blind det people with my dispenser all the time, because they’d kill me at one place, and I’d know exactly how long it would take them to be near it, even though I was way off in the spawn room. And this was without voice comms! heh

I guess some players just aren’t that smart/perceptive/experienced/whatever, and feel the need to justify their death by accusing the other person of cheating.

Edit: btw for those who don’t know, the dispenser was something the TF engineer could build which gives teammates ammo and armor, but can be remotely destroyed to act as a sort of bomb.

(Fusen) #50

Bludd has said before that he isnt the same guy from mpc.de so there might be a little arguement when he see’s this…but even if he does cheat theres no point argueing with him as they are all the same and make up lame excuses to why they think they should use cheats etc. its betetr just to stay away from the topic =P

(pgh) #51

Maybe but…

Coincidence theres 2 Bludds, both coders? and both playing ET? The Bludd on MPC has ~Bludd as there nick and sure enough Bludd ere has a sig reading that. Appoligies then if aint same person but imo it is.

(Bludd) #52

LOL! OK here’s the dill, yo. :stuck_out_tongue: We’ve been over this before, so whether or not I’m the same guy is irrelevant, as I see it. We have PB to bust cheaters, so the topic is moot. Let’s say I was that other Bludd. Would that mean I cheated on PB servers? No, because I wouldn’t be able to. As I’ve said on these forums before, hacking is a mindset, so I can understand why hackers would see game cheats as yet another interesting challenge. As for the kiddies who download cheats and havn’t a clue how to make one; I see them as pretty low on the totem pole. As a gamer, I find all gaming related topics of interest, just as you fellas who frequent those cheat sites do. I would assume you visit those sites only to keep track of available cheats, but that’s a very generous assumption on my part, because some of you may very well be using the cheats you find (and simple math would dictate that at least a small percentage of you are using them for certain). Does it matter if anyone here cheats? No, because we have PB, and need not ever cross paths with them if we so desire. Again, I’m not going to argue about whether or not we are the same person, because for the purposes of these forums, it doesn’t matter. All my posts here are about ET and it’s loveliness, all have been relevant and well thought out, and I’ve tried to help others when I can. Bani’s question about whether or not I’m the same Bludd who wrote an opengl wrapper seemed to imply that if I was, I would have no right to my opinions as stated here at SD. I see that as somewhat restrictive, and even draconian. A “lynch mob” mentality, if you will. I, as an individual, have every right to pursue any and all of my varied interests at my leisure. If modifying my clientside game files for any purpose were one of those interests, then as a fully legal activity, that would be my within my rights and within the law. I can tell you here and now, however, that for me to code a game cheat would be akin to me flapping my arms and flying away. I simply wouldn’t know how to do it. But again, if I could do it, I probably would. As a person with a voracious appetite for knowledge, the lure would be too strong, and as a lover of games and a lover of computers in general, the challenge of making an aimbot or whatever else you want to name would be something I would have to try, as a personal challenge. Again, it would have no effect on the game we all love, because PB would relegate my tests to non-PB servers, where you all know cheating is a way of life (which is why you all avoid them).

At the end of the day, you decide what you want. I myself have never tried to attach anyone here to another personality elsewhere, because I frankly don’t care what else any of you are involved with; it doesn’t effect the discussions here at SD. As you can see, I’ve neither confirmed nor explicitly denied your accusations, because to do either would only invite more harsh homophobe-like attacks. I’d rather see the topic of “me” dropped entirely, because it is not relevant to the discussion of ET here at SD, and is wasting everyone’s time and SD’s bandwidth. Remember, I didn’t bring this question to light. I came to SD to talk about the game I love, and whatever else I may or may not be involved in is off topic. Search Google and you may find a Bludd discussing their activities in any number of other areas; whether or not that Bludd is this Bludd is neither here nor there…

(Kendle) #53

Maybe, but when a person uses their cheats on a public server, PB enabled or otherwise, they’re effecting other people, and that makes them scum.

I’m an intelligent guy, with a voracious appetite for knowledge, AND I’m a programmer by trade, but I’ve NEVER, EVER been even remotely tempted to use or attempt to make a cheat.

There’s nothing “homophobic” about calling a scum-sucking cheater a scum-sucking cheater.

(pgh) #54

I merely keep a constant advantage over the rest. Well no. Read Banis post about the Open GL wrapper, something i’ve never looked into in great detail, and figured i’d try and find out more. Ofc, Google brought up all sorts of 3dFX and Sourceforge type sites with Dx8 things and Open GL wrappers. I tried a search for it with ‘Open GL Wrapper + Bludd’ and ended up, after around 45284294820 popups, at MPC. The fact I am in work, I was yesterday when I searched, means I have no way of ‘using’ these cheats or ‘keep track of available cheats’ - tbh, most of the posts I saw on it were December 03. GG.

And Kendle. There is.

(bani) #55

you read an awful lot into a single sentence. care to share some of what you’re smoking? :moo:

no matter how many times i smashed my head with a ball peen hammer, i couldn’t make out “lynch mob” anywhere in my post. could you point it out?

(SCDS_reyalP) #56

I’ll bring the rope

FWIW, I have no doubt the two bludds are the same. They have posted the same bullshit nearly word for word in both places. Speaking of bullshit, the whole “pb catches cheats so it’s ok” is a prime example, given how much effort cheaters put into trying to get around PB, avoiding bans, etc.

For any of you who still think bludd might be an OK guy, here’s another quote from the ‘other’ bludd

Heh, I once made a HELLA-annoying vsay script for a particular server that pushed me too far. I could just press a key to toggle it on/off. What it did was cycle through every vsay in the game and repeat forever 'till I stopped it, all the while changing my name every so often. This was a non-PB server so the name changes didn’t kick me, and not many people are bright enough to just get your id# to call a votekick. Without spam protection I can assure you this was enough to bring the game to a grinding halt and have the entire server whining at me and leaving en-masse. Even with spam protection on it was sufficiently annoying to have the whole server begging me to STFU.

Yup, “scum sucking” seems to fit the bill

(Psycho Al) #57

Ahh, cheaters are silly kids.

What shocks me to be honest is this:

Is he offering us dildos? :eek2:

(Bludd) #58

Heh, I was using ebonics, tongue in cheek, to be on the same wavelength with the kids. Anyway, none of these replies have shown me where my behavior here at SD is inappropriate, in fact I’ve been a relatively likeable guy, I thought…

Oh, I think you missed the “-like”, Kendle.

Anyway, great to feel all the love. Shall I place myself in the stockade, or do I get a fair trial from the Spanish Inquisition?

/me bows out gracefully, remembering to search Google in the future for every possible name and be sure to never use anything that previously exists, maybe even mashing the keyboard just to be safe…

It’s been real, but I feel like I’ve been driven out of Dodge, and I’ve done nothing to deserve it. (/me does a search of my posts to be sure… yup, sure enough, best behavior all around…)

(Kendle) #59

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out, scum-sucker.
