ET keeps crashing.

Thank God others are having the same problem. Kind of a relief. My problem is I dont know crap about scripts or networking or whatever the heck is causing it. After I start ET and it crashes, my console stays open. It says:

You need to delete the servercache.dat files within your et directory. The problem will just crop up again as long as the master server keeps returning so many addresses, though.

Most of the servers the master returns are no longer responding (which is why people complain about the list being so slow to refresh when it does work for them.)

Just made a check with Pathfinder: when I start the query it reports 8000 something servers, but after the query is finished only 1805 servers responded. So there are at least 6000 servers (=75%) on the master list that are not responding.

Some pk3s do this to me. If I delete any rtcc or 1kb pk3s it usually fixes it; you know the ones a server automatically download even though you don’t want to get it (grrr)? But that case usually crashes when you click host game. You know you fixed it when it actually goes IN. But lately I’ve been getting other errors, where if I get a new map from a server, I crash, start it again, crash, and then it works, in that exact pattern every time.

I put in about many hours a day pretty much since E.T. came out…I have just encountered the" E.T. shuts down" after you try to play online problem… After watching the game slowly deteriorate for about two months to reach that point…a process I could actually see in game play over the last 8 weeks…anyway, I tried the uninstall , install and patch …you know…No go…Tried again…no patch this time…get about 30 servers…none of which I have ever seen before…pretty weird azz stuff and it REALLY sucks…I love this game …it is untouched by any…but there has to be a solution to this ailment …MEDIC!!..I NEED A MEDIC!!!..CALL IN ARTILLERY!!.. Revive me!!!..anyone? Please…My E.T. died tonight…“a-wake” and feeling the loss

Sounds like someone found a bug to exploit to me… Probably naming their server some odd string of characters that the master server can’t handle… But that’s just me speculating. Sucks guys!

If you need to get your ET fix on and don’t know your favorite servers address or IP. Always welcome on our server. Just load up ET hit ~ to get into console and type:

Now my ingame favorites was lost and I am not able to click on the check box to add favorites. Any solutions?

Favorites being lost will be normal (they were probably already gone due to the bug that’s been causing the crashes.) You should still be able to add new favorites, though. :???:

Sorry that nobody from SD noticed this thread earlier. It’s a bank holiday weekend and we just finished a big internal milestone. I suspect everyone is going to be asleep for the next couple of days.

It does sound like a problem wih the master server. We’ve seen a big increase in players and servers lately - maybe that’s something to do with it. Unfortunately I’m the only one here, but I’ll see if I can find someone at id to look into why it’s happening when they come online later.
