et freezing when loading map

(yobiko) #1

Have a little problem with loading a testmap I’ve made. ET hangs on the screen where it says “awaiting challenge” and that stuff when I have set mapcoordsmaxs and mapcoordsmins. If I don’t set them I get into the map but can’t open limbomenu because it freezes.

I have both blue and red teamspawn set to invulnerable and startactive
I have an info_player_deathmatch too.

Anyone know a soulution? Have searched the forum, but haven’t found anything of use.

Thanks

have you tested in your map somethin with push-buttonl ike things… ???

i have had the same problem…as i tested a Mortar Shooter…as i touched the trigger…ET Freezes

have yozu tested somethin like this ?

greez

Nope. dont have a single trigger on the level. just a hollowed box with some entities. It hangs before getting into level when mapcoords is set or when I try to reach limbo if they are not set.

Have you made sure that you have all the necessary entities in the map?

These ones are the bare minimum in a fully functional map:

team_CTF_redspawn
team_CTF_bluespawn
team_WOLF_objective (default_axis checked)
team_WOLF_objective (default_allies checked)
info_player_intermission

not needed for initial testing but should be in there in one form or another:
info_player_intermission (axis checked)
info_player_intermission (allied checked)

Plus the defined mapcoordsmaxs and mapcoordsmins (defining a square area).

I have added the info_player_intermissions for both axis and allies. still not working though. Same thing. I reach the map without the mapcoords but it hangs when hitting “L”.

each corner of the box is placed 192 units away from center in every direction.

mapcoodsmins is set to -448, 448
mapcoodsmaxs is set to 448, -448

I hope you didn’t spell mapcoordsmins and mapcoordsmaxs as you did, then that’s definitley your problem. If not here’s a very basic map you can check that should work straight away after a compile:

http://www.rtcw-tf.co.uk/gib/mapping/example.map (right click, save as…)

(yobiko) #7

noppe. spelled mapcoordsmins and mapcoordsmaxs correctly in the editor.

The example map you posted worked fine. and as far as I can see, I haven’t missed anything in my testmap :frowning:

i would set your coords to :

mapcoodsmins is set to -502, 502
mapcoodsmaxs is set to 502, -502

sometimes if your coords are exact. the game freezes. it is best to add 64 to you coords

(yobiko) #9

Well, I had the coords set to 448 which was 256 away from the corners of the box before. Now I tried with 64 away, that is coords set to 256. boxcorners are 192. figured I might have put to large amount of “air” outside. didn’t help though :frowning:

Anyway, if someone wants to take a look for their own, heres the map:

Would be appreciated

:open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: its becuase all your spawn entity’s (points) are touching! get rid of all of them and put a info_player_deathmatch and then compile it with the META one and then test it and tell me the result…

Something is very very strange with that map, I couldn’t locate what the problem was, I could only solve it. I tried numerous things with no success at all until I was convinced that there must be something wrong with the map file itself. I opened up the map in a text editor but couldnt find anything that looked wrong. So I seleced the map in the editor, (made a brush in the top view that covered everything, right clicked, select->select complete tall). Then file->newmap anwsered no on saving the map and yes on copy selection, saved it with the same name and it actually loaded the map. Don’t know why but it did.

There’s more things in it that is wrong but I let you figure that out.

Lanz; I tried what you said, didn’t get it to work. Got warnings about leaks, but did load. but it still hangs when trying to enter limbo.

DeAtHmAsTeR: Tried that, tried without info_player_deathmatch and I tred with all the things I hade but moved them so they didn’t intersect. didn’t work. map did’t load.

This is getting kinda weird I think. I’ve compared testing.mat to example.map. no big diferrences. tried the same settings and stuff. and I’ve also tried making a new map. same there. did’nt work either. almost like every map made on my computer malfunctions :frowning:

(yobiko) #13

Well, found the error. the mapcoords shouldn’t be divided by a ,
just woke up and took a look at it, tried without , and it worked. ain’t it wonderful how much good some sleep can do?

(DeAtHmAsTeR) #14

ARGH lol… glad its working onw
