ET editor mac???

(yankeedoodle) #1

Hello

I’ve discovered ET a few months ago, and I really like the game.
Now I am interested in making a map myself, but is this possible, since I am a mac-user?

Probably, the answer is no, but If yes, where to start?

Welcome to the forum yankeedoodle

There are mainly two different editors for ET. The first is GtkRadiant and the second one is NetRadiant. They basically do the same things, but it is just for your personal taste which one you use. When you are a bit familiar with the whole process then you will see the pros and cons yourself.

I use NetRadiant and I’m perfectly happy with it! There is also an official version of NetRadiant for Mac on the same page.

As for GtkRadiant, google gave me two sides where I can download a Mac version of said program. Page#1 Page#2
Please note that I don’t know how far you can trust those 2 sides.

If you use any Radiant version older than GtkRadiant 1.4 (which includes NetRadiant, since it is based on GTK 1.5) then you need to download this pack. It contains all the missing assets you need to properly create maps (e.g. tree models). Another option would be to just download and install GtkRadiant 1.4 and point it to the same ET directory. GTK 1.4 will extract those missing files itself, so you won’t need the extra pack.

Regards,

//EDIT: Perfect! Mateos already pointed you to the proper Mac version of GtkRadiant.

//EDIT2: In addition to Mateos’ tutorial link (which is the best one to start mapping!) there is a quite helpful post, which contains helpful advice, tools, tutorials, etc. >>give it a try

It seems GtkRadiant 1.6 can now be compiled on Mac:

(yankeedoodle) #5

thanks for all the help, guys.
I will try it out, and see if it works.

(yankeedoodle) #6

Well, it’s not completely working. I’ve downloaded the Macradiant 1.4 thing, but when it opens I don’t see anything.
I’ve also downloaded and installed the pack installer, but that doesn’t seem to do anything either.
Does somebody know the problem?

(Mateos) #7

What do you mean by you don’t see anything? Screenshot?

(yankeedoodle) #8

well, basically I see the application is opened below, but there isn’t a window that opens, if you know what I mean  .

(KeMoN) #9

I honestly have no idea of what could be wrong, since I’m neither familiar with the MacRadiant nor Mac OS.
However a quick google-search for ‘Macradiant doesn’t open’ gave me 3 forum posts which seem to be your problem.
I didn’t go through them, since I’m not interested in setting up MacRadiant. But you should propably give them a shot.

[Solved!] Macradiant 1.4 installing on Mac < Since it says ‘Solved’ I’d start with that one

hmmm, still can’t get the problem fixed.
But I will try to find it out myself.
You guys have already done enough  .

(Mateos) #11

If you find a fix, feel free to post it here  So if an other guy has a comparable problem and finds this thread, he may try it

I’ve compiled GtkRadiant from git, however it is not statically linked, so it will probably not run unless you install some dependencies through homebrew. Notably zlib, libgtkglext, pango, gtk and freetype.
