ET/DB improve tracking in other games? (i.e. Quake)

My lightning gun in Quake is kinda meh, and Quakelive is pretty dead in the morning hours. so I thought DB would be good practice. What are your guys’ experiences?

I feel like I should play Proxy to improve my tracking since she runs quite fast. Compared to Quake, every other merc seems too slow.

but… maybe I can ask the question another way: if you main a slow merc, say Fragger, does your aim still carry over into faster mercs like proxy or aura? it’s not exactly the same feel, obviously, but you will still improve.

DB is special, no other game features as much tracking aim and twitchy duels. I’ve never heard of any ET pros move to Quake, though I’m sure there has been.

I don’t feel a difference if I play Rhino or Aura.

Same here. In the past, ive mained mercs like proxy, stoker, fragger, aura, and right now fletcher. No difference I can notice.

There will only be a noticeable difference if you play a run and gun style but it’s not really aim related. You don’t go being a bouncing monkey bot with rhino, fragger or thunder. For most fun go Proxy, for most points go Aura.

Yes.

Your skill with the Q3 lightning gun translates extremely well to Dirty Bomb with most weapons. So even if your LG wasn’t that great you might still have a pretty big head start compared to many.

The speed of the merc you play doesn’t affect your aim. Most of the weapons, however, will need to be learned since spread, bloom and recoil are all things you have to consider in Dirty Bomb that you don’t deal with in Q3.

I would learn Skyhammer and use the M4 as your baseline and then move on from there. The M4 might as well be a lightning gun and he’s a solid merc. Also, learn the movement system in DB. There isn’t any strafe jumping but there is a lot of depth to wall jumps and ways to increase speed.

i figured movement speed would affect aim because strafe aiming helps so much with tracking. different movement speed = different amounts you must move your mouse to compensate?

i found in quake, finding the right speed to move my mouse, not too much or too little, and balance that with strafe aim, really helped my tracking.

when i play stoker or skyhammer i find im quite mouse heavy, but aura, i really needed to slow down my mouse and do more strafe aim to land some good shotgun shots. anyway, my main question was if DB would help my LG aim, and I think it would, despite it (as far as i can tell) being slower movement speed than Quake. if slower mercs practice still carry over to faster mercs, that pretty much answers my question.

but does anyone play QL here? how’s your LG accuracy?
