"eSports Content"

(pansy) #1

Evening,

Thoughts id drop this up there as some of you may know me as a ESL Shoutcaster if not maybe a old Wolf:ET player. Currently i am not sure if there are any plans in the pipelines for ESL to officially be working with Splash Damage on this product but personally id be rather willing to try and do what i can to create content.

The main question is, what would you guys want? At present i fully intend to cast as much as possible but my schedule is manic over at ESL doing other games but i would like to think i can make time. Other than the obvious above idea, would you guys like written articles ? youtube video casts?

Also on the topic of casting, what style do you guys enjoy? Would you rather more analysis than play by play or whatever.

Any thoughts and feedback would be great. Obviously this will be dependent on waiting for the NDA to be lifted but there isnt anything wrong with me starting to get things in motion

Hello Pansy.

Right now we are just getting to the point where some new teams are starting to form… Obviously we are still waiting for the “power” teams to jump in at some point. Right now there are a couple of people making bits and bats of content (I myself being one of them) so I would recommend right of the bat getting in touch when you can. Here is an example of what we are currently working with…

This is a recent cast I ATTEMPTED to do

I will also be creating YouTube content when the NDA lifts based on Tips and Tricks and all that random Jazz.

My skype is in the sig if needed.

Love the BF4 stuff you have been up to so keep up the good work and look forward to you jumping into Dirty Bomb with us.

I smell a partnership here

Neeeeeeeeeeeed shoutcasts with two reviewers

(potty200) #5

This is a game that will need 2 or even more casters to keep up with what is going down.

(PixelTwitch) #6

True… shame its just a meat grind still.

(RasteRayzeR) #7

Here is what Anti^ replied to me when I said this for the 1’000’000th time

Trust and wait

(potty200) #8

Spawn time/spawn WAVES would easily fix this.

For the play by plays

Hey, pansy and welcome! Don’t forget to introduce yourself here: http://forums.warchest.com/showthread.php/33608-Introduce-Yourself!

SD has already hold contact to the ESL I think, so I’m sure when we can expect something in the future.

What we want in general or for casting specifics?
In general I would say that a similar story on the ESL as we had with BRINK should never ever happens again.
For casting specifics I would say all of that you mentioned! Everything content based which helps to create a lively competitive community, written or recorded is appreciated.
The main focus should be of course on the casting important cups etc.

Not sure what you mean by ‘play by play’ but I myself enjoy tactical insights more as ‘player A killed player B’.
For a caster who wants to cast competitive matches, it is absolutely necessary to play as well to have the required understanding. You don’t have to compete on the highest level of course, but experience and tactical knowledge matter if you don’t want to sound like a stand-in caster from a different game genre with no clue.
Oh and passion for the game is important, too!

You can even start now! I highly recommend you take a look at the competitive section of the forum and take part in the weekly gathers to get to know the game and getting in contact with the community, but I’m sure there won’t be any problems for you to make your way into DB with your ET background.
We have already casts and matches going on. In the past potty was doing most of it, but as he is on a break now PixelTwitch is continuing with casting etc.
They and all gather interested players mostly hang around on the community TS (ts3.trackbase.net:8888), so feel free to join to get further information and to play if you like.

Glad to see you posting in the forum Pansy, be sure to stick around, I’m sure there’s going to be a lot of cool community initiatives/collaborations that we can all work on/contribute to in some way over the coming months :).

I think we’re all in agreement that great tournaments with fantastic casting would be the top content that most of us want to see. Written articles are great, but their reach generally isn’t fantastic, unfortunately  (very well written guides being an exception perhaps).

As far as Youtube content goes, what did you have in mind? Post-event commentary? I’m sure you’ll know more about this than me, but from what I see, competitive gaming/eSports thrives in the “now”, rather than the “what has been”. Twitch Vs Youtube/. VoDs are great, but I’m not sure that creating eSports related content specifically for Youtube would maximize the potential impact for the work required. With that said, what might be very interesting would be to see a number of one-off videos that are basically an introduction to DB and the game as a competitive title. Either one generic video could be made to extol the virtues of DB as a competitive game…or one could look at making specific videos for the CS crowd, the BF crowd, the CoD crowd etc. Various facets of DB can have comparisons drawn to each of those titles, so portions of their communities transitioning to DB wouldn’t be entirely out of the question. While it might be a longshot, if that kind of content found it’s way to ESL channels, that certainly wouldn’t be the worst thing to happen for the scene.

Comparison:

  • BF has weapons - DB has weapons
  • CS has weapons - DB has weapons
  • CoD has ironsights - DB has ironsights

Can’t wait to watch these videos on the ESL!

I agree with Rex. You won’t make any good publicity or content by saying why DB is different. Would be way better to naturally attract the players by offering quality comp games, strategic insights and regular news on the development and new features

(prophett) #19

It would be nice if any future maps allow for different strategies. Right now it’s simply pick 5 classes and rush the single objective on 1 of two paths.

(RasteRayzeR) #20
  • two paths that lead to the same place just before the objective, that has the defender spawn only 8 seconds away :penguin:
