ofcourse as long as its somewhat competetive and has something to do with skill
ESL ET Mapping Contest
I think, since itās 1 on 1 you can only send in DM, since OBJ would be very lonely as 1 on 1
But then again, Iām not sure
there are a few objectives that can be fun in 1 on 1, even might be more interesting than just straight deathmatch
capture the flag
king of the hill
tug of war
Yeah, but I was thinking more about real objectives like ācapture documentsā āget the goldā things
I didnāt know that CTF and ToW and KotH were considered as OBJ
By the time youāve all finished asking questions the deadline will be up. How about those of you who are making a map stick to the original guidelines? rather than trying to complicate the whole thing!
Well, I canāt blame the fact that some people like to spice their maps a bit, instead of just making a 6 X 4 hollow box with 1 ammo/health cabinet.
Besides, the questions asked above are related to the guidelines.
I think CTF is a substantially different mode than OBJ, since many games differentiate these two modes as the CTF system is mostly based on a scoring system (e.g. multiple flags), while OBJ consists out of a singular retrieval (e.g. one flag) or destruction.
in all honesty, who would send there troops to die for a peice of gold? That is the one thing I think the game designers did HORRIBLY wrong when making objectives for ETās base maps. I mean really, in Goldrush everyone is dying so that they can move a slow moving tank to a bank and take two boxes of gold⦠isnāt it cheaper to retain the weapons/ammunition/PEOPLE/clothing/trainging costs and be just the richer?
xD /endrant
Well, the Goldrush idea is based on the movie āKellyās Heroesā, I believe, and it that film, superiors never issued any commands to steal some gold bars. It was the sole venture of some US soldiers who wanted a little extra for after the war.
But indeed, itās kinda f*cked up to send in dozens of soldiers to get some gold, but letās just put reality aside as ET holds more value to the fun factor.
Dont go off topic
on topic: I have really enjoyed ctf in quake 3 a, but I have never played ctf in ET (are there even any maps for et this type?). So I think I would take a risk and create one for competition on my free time
off topic: what human would risk his life for a box of gold, which he later will share with thousands others?
About taking enemy recourses: they must be very poor to have only 2 crates of gold. To proove they are really poor: look at the protection, you need a tank to blow the doors protecting 2 crates
sry no offence, goldrush is still one of my favourite maps!
HOW COULD YOU FORGET

omg!
Also my map (bit shitty I admit haha)
ctf_psl
Heres also a ctf disscusion:

(I am a big fan of ctf maps)
Also in the mod ultra et they build in a ctf feature so they can disable the objective in maps and add ctf flags with point system and they have lots of ctf maps.

It is a private mod it only runs on 1 server, but you can connect to the server with any version of ET
EDIT:
I found the pieces to my ctfprefab and here it is:
http://stealth.staatsschutz.org/ctfprefab.pk3
readme:
This is a capture the flag prefab.
It consists of a scoreboard system and 2 flags. (red & blue)
The winner is the first to 100 caps OR the team with the most caps when the time runs out.
Use whatever you wish from this prefab since it is all opensource (the flags by rayban can also be found online)
The bsp contained in the pk3 file is NOT playable on a server for developer purposes only.
For you too see an example open with:
/sv_pure 0
/devmap ctfprefab
otherwise it might crash ET.
The bsp file and the map file are different.
In the bsp file I was trying to make a second scoreboard and the flags are positioned closer together for faster testing.
In the map file the scoreboard is still in its raw state and the flags are further apart.
There is no trace of a second scoreboard.
The reason why the two are different is unknown to me since I made this quite a while ago.
It is quite possible that this prefab can be improved, if you do please share it with the other mappers.
