ESL cup signups

(Draceus) #1

Okay so as you all probably know ESL has decided to host a testcup for DirtyBomb. This is great news!
But nobody is signing up, why?

For DirtyCups last Sunday I think we had around 8 EU teams signed up and on ESL right now we have two, yes you read that right… TWO!
I love what DirtyCups is doing for the community, I really do. They have had some great success with the stream and good participation in their first two cups and I’m sure they will have the same in the cups to come but DirtyCups is not where the future of this game will be.

The future will be in leagues like ESL actually supporting this game in cooperation with nexon / SD and providing us with price cups, regular cups and hopefully some offline events. They also have go4 and EMS (of course only if nexon / SD are willing to pay for it to happen).
To make this game a success we need a company like ESL to be interested and that just wont happen when they see only two teams sign up for their cup.

So please help us and yourselves by making the game grow more and more popular and show people at ESL that we are actually serious about playing this game and that we are willing to play in the cups that they host, we can’t do it without them and they cant do it without us.

Go sign up now!

To be fair, I don’t think everyone knows about it because ESL really doesn’t put the info out there besides a forum post. If they want more than 10 teams, they’ll need to do more. I haven’t checked, but I think an announcement on the main site would be nice. Dirty Bomb and ESL website.

if they want more than 10 teams, they need it on a saturday or sunday

In other words, they actually need to put some time and effort into this. I guess they thought they’d do the job with a single reddit post

I cant see how anyone actually interested in competitive could possibly have missed that esl is running a cup

I just think some people are not as keen as others right now. I play one night a week only as things change and not always for the better.

I would of hoped ESL would of taken a step back until at least open beta and the community have got more of an idea how this game is going to be played at a competitive level.

this has nothing to do with it, it’s literally all because it’s at 7pm cest on a thursday, meaning NAs can’t play because they have work
a reschedule would result in a lot more teams signign up

I agree with Potty. At the moment (when i’m actually home to play), I’m definitely not down to play in 2 cups per week, or any event with a time to suit everybody (but actually suits no one) that spans two days that chews up my whole weekend (say Sat and Sun for example).

The biggest issue is the small competitive player base. It’s hard to put off an NA only or EU only tourney due to smaller numbers, and combined tournies translate in to less than ideal start times for most people involved.

My ideal tourney would be spanning multiple days during the weekday with a start time of 9pm Eastern. If we currently ran one with that setup we’d be lucky to get 4 teams signed up to play in it.

Think dMon might still sign up later this week, but personally I hope ESL puts this on hold at least until there is a better competitive platform in the game for clan/team play. MM clearly isn’t interesting for solo play and playing vs teams isn’t nearly as interesting if you’re not competing for something, most teams don’t really care about competing for money/prizes at this stage but just being able to say 'we’re officialy nr1/2/3/4/etc in the EU team ranked leagues can be a good stimuli for competitively minded players. The DC cups are a great entry to competitive and showing how the meta is developing as the game grows/develops but there has to be something that teams can arrange themselves and compete on a regular basis. There is no competitive platform for teams/players that can’t play the cup dates, which for them is more than understandable to be completely demotivating. I’m 100% sure that if there was a Ranked Team Ladder or even just private servers(so a group like Dirty Cups can create a 3rd party ranked ladder) so that teams can effectively compete on their own schedule the competitive scene will grow simply because it’s easier to keep people engaged.

Also want to emphasize that MM, even if there were ranks, isn’t interesting to a real competitive player. Sure there are internet heroes who will say ‘i have the highest rank, i am the best’ but this is a team based game and if there will be no Ranked Team system like a Ladder or an MM system solely for teams (you can’t queue up in it if you’re not with only members of your team), DB’s MM will simply become what CSGO’s MM is compared to ESEA. A great thing for individuals that don’t want the real thing. The players that want true competitive play go to other platforms(outside the game) that offer better services.

I would just like to add that NA teams are welcome to join in for the ESL Community Cup #1 Europe. Our first edition will be mainly aimed at European players, thus will also most likely be played on European servers. However North American teams are welcome to join in. We’ll also most likely host a 2nd one that is mainly aimed at North American players.

Would be awesome if you really mean that and not Sunday 12:00 CDT

We’re going to do our best to support the community in the competitive scene so will definitely try to get more eyes on the ESL sign ups. I’m hoping more opportunity arises for NA teams as well- most likely in open beta

I think, ESL should start when game will have proper competitive mode, it will attract players to get ranks and do clans.

Thanks to everyone that took the time to sign up and compete, I was very happy to see so many new faces
