Running a memory tester, or other test programs, won’t tell you that much. If it finds an error, you’ll know your memory (or maybe cpu/motherboard) is bad. If it finds nothing, your memory maybe is OK, but maybe not.

That’s because some errors only happen under very specific conditions. It’s possible that an error only occurs when you play ET.

I have a good example: I use a Slot 1-system as a DSL-Router. I had a P2-266 plugged in, somewhen the fan failed (what I noticed after it crashed often). So I changed the fan, the system bootet fine and worked without a problem. At least so far. Every time I started the Midnight Commander (a Norton Commander Clone), the system crashed. I plugged in another CPU and everything ran fine again (including MC). The point is that this special CPU for some reason only crashed when running MC, a CPU- or Memory-tester maybe hadn’t found anything (although I never checked).

i play d3,hl2.lineage,vampire and many other games and this damn error only in ET, how can i fix??or i can not??and the memetest86 doesnt work here,theres another??

Disable VC++ debugging monitor, if you can’t then disable windows error reporting

Try what already was suggested. Hunting such an error can be hard, as a PC is a complex device.

I can only give you some advice what to try:

• Try to get better cooling for CPU, graphics card and/or case, as I already wrote above. Often blowing the dust off the fans can do the trick.
• Try to downclock things, especially the memory. You can do this in the BIOS, more waitstates mean slower memory.
• Try to change parts to see if they are broken. Maybe a friend can help you out with his PC, so you have some parts to change.
• Maybe your power supply is too weak. Change it for a better one.
• Eventually, it is a software problem. Try reinstalling windows, or even better Linux. ET runs perfectly in Linux.
• The best PC-tester maybe is Linux. If it crashes during normal use, something is broken for sure. For example, you can boot Knoppix (http://www.knoppix.net) from CD without installing it to harddisc.

And the last advice: Don’t let people fool you :). Turning off error reporting won’t make the error go away.

isnt a hardware problem,li ke said i play doom 3…vampire blood lines and they not crash,only et crashes…help plz :eek:

You can turn it like he said just do his things , again pres windows key plus pause ( or preperties by right clicking on “my computer” icon)
go to “advanced tab” ( on right lower corner of place where are tabs ) then go click on the “error reporting” button on the lower right , uncheck all , reboot , that´s all …
actualy it seems you don´t have english version of win ( me don´t to) so you will need to find it by layout … maybe you can make some pictures for him gentlemans !

Roll back your video drivers OR update them to the latest version.

I had a similar problem on an older rig I have and the solution was to roll back my drivers a few months, finially I found a version that worked crash free and still played all my games.

Hell it’s worth a try.
