Error when compiling in GTK and Q3Map(2)

(Boe) #1

A few weeks ago, I converted an old RTCW custom map (IBSP, 45 I think) Into a .map useing Q3map. Then i used GTK to open the map to do some changes to it. and I keep getting these errors

Degenerage plane
Duplicate plane
Warning: Node with Unbound Volume

here is part of the log.

WARNING: Node With Unbounded Volume

The Node with Unbounded Volume goes on forever, and freezes all of the converters I have tried to use. (3 .bat files, Q3Map, GtK)

Also, when I tried to load the map into ET (the RTCW version) I got errors like

Target_location entities
Team_ctf_*player
g_pictarget: target t1095 not found
g_script_scriptparse ( ), Error (line 16): Unknown Action: wm_mapdescription

I can probably fix the script parse error, once I know how to stop it.

I looked in the other ET maps, and I didn’t seem to find any wm_mapdescription in their scripts.

EDIT
I forgot to say that I did over 50 hours of research before I posted here. I did Searches on multiple search engines, useing different key words, searched many forums, and read threw a ton of Threads. I asked a few of my friends from other games, and read a ton of tutorials to see if I was doing something wrong. Also, the compile did not work on any GTK radient version I had (1.38, 1.4, 1.5) or Q3map, Q3map2 (2.0 and 2.5)and a ton of batch files, most of which are listed in the level editing for ET, and RTCW.

(WolfWings) #2

Trying to ‘decompile’ a map almost never results in a map that can be recompiled successfully.

The best it does is give you a .map file you can rebuild (pretty much from scratch) to get the actual brushwork needed to tinker with. The output from decompilers is useful more as a tool to give a starting point if you lose the .map file, much of the information in a .map file is thrown away and lost in an actual .bsp file, and can’t be regained correctly.

(Boe) #3

So, it will never be recompileable? And I will need to start from scratch?

(WolfWings) #4

It’s unlikely to be recompilable using any of the existing brushwork that the ‘decompile’ creates.

The decompiled map can be rebuilt, area by area, to match the original geometry though, with new brushwork.

(Boe) #5

so it is the Brushes that is screwing it up? and If I went threw and rebuilt all of them it might work? (and keep the entities from the old map)

(WolfWings) #6

Yes, that is correct.

Decompiling a map, at best, gives you something you can load into GtkRadiant to start rebuilding from.
