i’m new to this forum, but not new to mapping. i’m now sp-mapping with sof2. i use gtk 1.3.8 and use the compile tool from the editor. i’m not sure if this is the right forum for me, but i’m stuck and can go on with building. i have here the junk.txt file, would anybody please take a look and help me?

How much RAM does your rig have?

i’ve got 256 ram memory when i’m right.

i do have the solution now, or not realy. i closed my pc down last night and did go to sleep. i have compiled the map now again, and now it doesn’t have any trouble with it, and compiles it like normal.

i have had this problem before, but i have to think about it next time.
because when i’m building the hole afternoon with a lot of compiling and so, that the pc has to do a lot. than it occurs that he gives error messages with compiling. so, the problem doesn’t conserns the map itself, but just that the pc is to hot, or maybe the ram memory is full, or something. (probaly i say very stupid things now, but i don’t know mutch from the technical side of the pc).

the case is that i have to compile a big map when the pc is re-started so the ram memory is empty, or when he’s cooled down. i don’t know.
the silly thing is that i can’t see it in the junk file.

what do you think ydnar??

While likely not the cause of your problem, you might want to fix those. bobtoolz brush cleanup or delete and re-create.

can you tell me what that is, the -lomem switch?

and those duplicate brushes i do have t change indead. i try not to make them, but i t always happens once or twice in a map. in the end with the last control i always make those errors right.

Yeah isn’t 256 the minimum for Windows XP?

Even if it isn’t, thanks to the increased resources XP uses I would definately reccomend an upgrade in memory.

you’re totaly right, but, within a year or less i will buy a hole new pc, i will have than something about 3000 euro for it. so, i will buy a monster than. therefore also i will do with this pc for now. i have 256 ram, and 1300 mgz and it works fine. only after a lot of owers working it isn’t possible to compile big maps. i have to restart, but that’s no problem.

untill than i will do with this one, still it’s big for me. 6 month ago i had 300 Mgz.

Well, the -lomem switch won’t help you, as it is a -light switch.

The best thing I can tell you is get more RAM. Other than that, when compiling, close every other application so Q3Map2 can get as much mem as it needs. Also, check your swap disk settings, make sure there’s at least a gig of swap available.

your right about closing other programs while compiling, most of the times i forget. than i’m so full of building something and totaly occupyed with it, that i start compiling before i checked everything. still, restarting the pc is very recommandeble vefore compiling, esspecialy after owers building.

(by the way i’m now nearly finisht with my latest sp-map, it’s a project of 4 sp-maps linked togetter with next level triggers. i see this forum and the other onces are not direct for sof2, it’s rtcw meanly. still, do you have sof2, and would you be interested in playing them?)
