Erratic Frames Even After Hotfix

(NightfIy) #1

Since the hotfix/rollback last week after the Summer Squash 3 seemed to add unwanted performance issues, I’m still suffering from horrible framerates throughout the game. This seems to also affect the people I play with in various ways with us all experiencing slight variances on the same thing - laggy gameplay mostly when up close and personal with another player.

I tried recording some of these instances last night (the problem still persists even without using any recording software in the background) using the Stat UnitGraph command and it shows there is some major fluctuation in the frame times. While I’m staying over 60FPS for the most part, due to running a 144hz monitor, these massive framedrops are making tracking and CQC almost impossible.

Currently I’m running and i5-4690k @ 4.4Ghz (stable overclock, tried at default setting also) and an AMD HD7970 Matrix Platinum @ Stock. All GPU and other drivers are up to date.

Is this something anyone else is still seeing as its got to the point where the game is almost unplayable for me unless I play sniper and camp in the back of the map to keep myself away from the action.

@stayfreshshoe

I get this maybe once or twice a session, but it happens sporadically with no apparent method to reproduce. I will try to capture it next time it happens.

When it does happen, my mouse movement appears to “snap” or “skip” across the screen instead of actually moving, with fps dipping/spiking, and only in Close Quarters.

[left]Nightfly and I have been trying different things, including the newest Sick6 Newb config over at reddit.com/r/dirtybombconfigs which fixed these issues, everything is smooth and it’s sticking to 130-144fps (it’s capped to 144fps). Only problem is, it makes DB crash to desktop every other map or so. (These crashes have been confirmed by Siegeface and StarscreamNL who’s also tried the config)
The crashes seem to be related to the TEXTUREGROUP settings being too high.

Tried the old Sick6 Newb config, and it didn’t fix the spikes/skipping for Nightfly, but it did for me.

Next step was that I modified the newest Sick6 Newb config to have the same TEXTUREGROUP values as the old one. The frames now goes from 100-144fps (still capped at 144fps) Screendump of the differences between the 2 Sick6 configs: https://gyazo.com/34cdaede1d21f6ea9d602d6e4706e17c Old
Old one on the left, new one on the right, differences are highlighted in yellow with the values highlighted in a slightly darker yellow. (Sorry to the OCD’ers that it’s not properly alligned, I’ll fetch a new alligned screenshot later)

What I really would like to try now, is go with a default Dirtybomb generated config, but I can’t. No - really, I apparantly can’t.

I’ve tried deleting the entire UnrealEngine3 folder under My Documents, and while somethings get reset like the UI, and ingame music is turned back on, somehow my mouse sensitivity is remembered, along with some of the graphical settings.
The real kicker here is the IniVersion number, a real ancient one at that too.
[IniVersion]
0=1473351374.000000
1=1475773308.000000
This number keeps getting applied unless I write protect the shooterengine.ini and it’s making me think that there’s a copy of my old config somewhere in the cloud, that keeps getting downloaded and applied.

I got Nightfly’s old config, his IniVersion is:
[IniVersion]
0=1476570956.000000
1=1476570975.000000

if I don’t write protect it, and boot up Dirtybomb I get my old IniVersion numbers right back.

All I want is to try the very default one, and set settings to minimal ingame and see how it runs, but I can’t for the life of me seem to get a fresh untouched config. Anyone got any tips for how to go default, or how to delete the config that apparantly lurks in the cloud? (All I can see in Steam is screenshots)

@Snittah Have a look in Dirty bomb Installation folder (not the config)

Dirty Bomb > Engine > Config

a file in there called baseengine.ini, that “should” be the default.

Copy it to the documents\my games\UnrealEngine3\ShooterGame\Config

and rename it to shooterengine.ini

Most games have a base ini file they read from just in case, not sure if that applies to dirty bomb but I can send you the default config if neccessary?

You could be on to something, but what strikes me is the lack of IniVersion, and that there’s a whole bunch of iPhone and iPad related settings in it, so I must say I doubt that is the absolute default config.

I forgot to mention I have tried uninstalling Dirtybomb, removing the UnrealEngine3 folder from My Documents, and then reinstalling DB and as such I would expect getting the exact same shooterengine.ini as a person installing DB for the first time would.

Nightfly seems to have been able to revert to a default, and sent me his, preliminary tests seems fine, but will need to test stability and such tonight.

If it seems to be working, I will not be messing around with any more configs until after the weekend, but I’d like your default, just to keep it handy.
