Eox's merc concepts.

I just wanted to share a couple of ideas. I have so far two female merc ideas. Why female ? Because so far DB’s merc roaster has mainly male characters. For the sake of character diversity, I though that adding more female mercs was a good idea.

New medic : Bulwark.

Melee

  • Cricket Bat
  • Stiletto
  • Beckhill Knife

Ability 1 : Safety Wall. The safety wall is expended in front of Bulwark. It is a wide shield that can sustain a fair amount of damage, pretty much like how Phantom’s Refractive Armor works : the shield lasts up to 10 seconds and enemies shooting the shield will reduce its duration. Has a cooldown of 30 seconds. Bulwark can’t sprint and use her weapons while the ability is triggered, but she can use her defibrillators in conjunction with her safety wall.
Ability 2 : Defibrillator. No need to describe it to you.

Basically, I thought that a medic with a high hp value could be something cool. Since high hp usually means big advantage in combat, I made sure that she wouldn’t get such a big combat advantage than other medics by giving her machine pistols as primary. She can’t heal : unlike other medics she’s made to prevent damage, not healing them. This is compensated by the fact that she can revive people somewhat safely in conjunction with her ability.

New engineer : Hopper

  • Blishlok

Secondaries :

  • Caulden
  • M9

Melee

  • Kukri
  • Cricket Bat
  • Beckill Knife

Ability 1 : Objective Specialist. No need to explain.
Ability 2 : Air Control (Passive). Spread penality while jumping reduced by 50%.
Ability 3 : Mobility enhancer (help me to find another name, this one sucks). Increase speed by a fixed +50 value and increase jumping height and lenght by 20% (includes jumping, long jumping and wall jumping). Lasts 8 seconds. Cooldown of 20 seconds.

The goal here was to create another offensive engineer. At first I wanted to make her a 120 hp merc, but I felt like a speedy 120hp merc would attract a lot of whine. She’s ovbiously not a shotgun user as well since a good number of people already complain a lot about shotgun mercs jumping around. I wanted here to create a merc with an aerial gameplay. Her hp value is still below average but high enough to break the habits of most of players. Meanwhile her low hp value and lack of front loaded damage does not make hopper’s job that easy against a decent player. She’s obviously a good flanker.

I wanted at first to make her air control passive remove all kind of spread penality, but I felt like it would attract way too much whine. If needed, the air control passive can go, and it’ll just be applied as another bonus from her 3rd ability.

That’s all I have so far.

Bulwark sounds pretty much exactly like Turtle’s ability.

Turtle’s shield ability was only able to lay a small cover on the ground as far as I know. It didn’t acted like a riotshield.

They’re not the first who introduced that kind of mechanic either. A few games that came way before OW had similar abilities. The first that comes through my mind being S4 League (don’t try that game, it’s shit). Warframe also has an ability like that. Oh and there’s Dalton in Insomniac’s game Fuse, who wields the MagShield.

These sound cool, but Hopper kinda sounds like she’d outclass poor Proxy since a lot of people like her SMG loadouts better as they’re more versatile and shes a very mobile merc. Maybe I wouldn’t make her an objective specialist and instead give her an assault/recon ability. Otherwise these are very interesting. Good job!

For me, I think a crazy cool merc would be a 90 HP, SMG focused female who creates portals.

Ability one creates an Entrance, Ability Two creates an Exit.

Would be fun. However I hope you are not talking about some kind of portal gun : this would break maps way quicker than Jean-Claude Van Damme breaks nuts between his buttcheeks.

bulwark sounds cool, but i think he should have at leas an smg as primary, machine pistol as an alternative weapon that you can only use with shield, i also would rather to see him with lmg as an assault, but its just me

i dont like the engineer, he would be funny to play, but ultra annoying to play against

but havent seen good ideas in past and i love bulwark idea!

First merc is just a version of Turtle as a supportive medic with defense instead of heals.

Second merc is a super-proxy without mines. - even if she was made to not be an engineer, she may be strong as a fragging class, given the ‘less jumping penalty’
This is only assuming the second merc is restricted to shotguns. In the case of giving this sort of ‘jumpy’ merc the hochfir, then skilled players would stomp in pubs: even without an active secondary ability.

For the second time : Turtle’s shield does not act like a riotshield so far. It’s only a deployable cover that you can’t carry and move around with (until further update).

I’m slightly worried that a merc like Bulwark would render Turtle’s shield defunct, regardless of how different to Turtle’s shield it is.

The ability needs a bit of work, but I really like the idea. The rest of the merc correlates with the ability incredibly well.

Giving to Turtle the ability to lay multiple deployable covers could remedy to this. Anyway, Turtle is not here yet and never got released so far.

I won’t hide that somehow I’d prefer SD allow Turtle to use his deployable cover also as a riot shield but I don’t know if it’ll be a thing. I feel like as he is, Turtle’s power is lackluster. Of course if we discover later that Turtle will be able to use his deployable cover the saw way one can use a riotshield, I’ll just get rid of Bulwark’s concept idea and probably create something else (like a damage reduction field or something). It’ll still be about a tanky medic of course.
