Engineers

(Luke Del) #1

Hey guys, recently i’ve started playing as an engineer again but I just can’t seem to get into it and enjoy it as much as the classes so I thought i’d make a thread where people can post their favourite engineer builds, body types, weapons etc that I can try to see if I enjoy it as much.

So, when playing as an engineer, what are your favourite weapons to use, strategies, body types?

well, here goes:

i have 4 players with engineer capabilities

1 medium engi/solder (level 21). has a lot of the abilities but not the ones that make hacking/building quicker. has 2 mines and 3 turrets, kevlar and double buffs

my light jack has speed hacking etc (as he dies quicker) and 1 mine and no turrets (light is more attacking that defensive)

my medium jack(level 20, waiting for 21 to sell and re-equip) will have 2 mines and pyro mine and double buff (i always use double buff - very handy)

my heavy jack (level 21) has double buff, 2 mines, turret (he is more defensive)

all in all i have almost all abilities split over my characters so they all play differently, they have different weapon setups too (especially on the light/med/heavy jacks)

Here’s what I do with Engineer. I add Operative skills. Very fun to play. I chose all abilities for Engineer with the exception of Kevlar Vest. Then I chose Caltrops, EMP, Hack Turret, and a couple other abilities from Operative Class. Then I chose both resupply rate increases for Medic and self revive. For Universal Abilities I chose grenade shooting, battle hardened, supply rate increase, intuition, sprint reload, grenade sprint, etc. Then I play as a light with Smg+Pistol combo. There are several great choices. And have the most fun with this.

At the moment im playing Engineer with medium body, weapons I use the Rhett Assault Rifle and the Carb-9 SMG. Skills I use Dual Mines, Improved Weapon Buff, Kevlar Plate Buff, Gatling Turret and Gear Head.

I play him as a very supportive character, placing mines and turret in strategic places, weapon buff everyone and kevlar plate buff others when needed.

I use the Rhett as my main and Carb-9 as secondary, both have good damage and accurate. Rhett is used for long range targets, Carb-9 is used for medium/short range targets (both weapons have a front grip and green eye scopes.)

I dont go in all guns blazing shooting off bullets for giggles, I like to plant my mines and get my turret down then move around (and sometimes camp down for a bit) and pick off enemies that are getting to close to the objective.

For me that’s the best way to play an Engineer, as a defensive supporting role which can me a little tricky when your offence but I find still gets the job done.

Play as a HEAVY engineer. I use the chinzor although a few use the EZ nade.

Set up your turrets in a choke, on the offensive hand out kevlar and weapon buffs, defenses set your up.

The turret should be able to fire at a chokepoint, but it shouldn’t be directly facing it, since turrets are weak. The best positions to put a turret is where the turret will be facing the enemies back as they advance towards their objective… so it’ll require them to turn around to shoot at the turret. Most of the time they don’t bother and the turret just finishes them off… or at least puts them in a panic to climb to cover. That’s when you should jump out and play mop up :).

I like to defend the health command post for a completely different game. Can’t beat some double mine spam, cp upgrade and operative firewall :>>

My first and favorite character is an Engineer. He has all the Engineer Abilities, though I traded out the Extra Kevlar for the Pyro Mine.

Medium body type.

Primary Weapon, Gerund AR: Adjusted Iron Sights/Four-Vent Muzzle Brake/Underslung Grenade Launcher/Duct-Taped Magazine

Secondary weapon, CARB-9 (Fallout): Adjusted Iron Sights/Silencer/Front Grip/Duct-Taped Magazine

While on defense I tend to camp the main objective with a Gatling Turret, two mines, and a Pyro Mine. While on offense, if I can’t do the main objective as an Engineer, I’ll usually pick a Command Post to capture/upgrade then set up my turret and mines around that then go and provide support for the main objective.

One of my favorite tactics is to set up my turret\mines at a side route then go and defend the main route. That way you can tell if the enemy is trying to flank you even if they don’t show up on radar.

OP. it´s not about the builds, the bodytype and stuff like that when it comes to enjoy engenier and play that role effectively.
-> Its aout understanding your Job, about knowing what your supposed to do
Jimmy, Kurushi and hot wire made some good points here.

The nice thing about brink ( compaired to W:ET or ETQW ) is that you can fill any class with your personal style through picking abilities, bodytype and stuff, but the bottomline of any class is set.

The eng is a supportive class.
That means your usually not at the very frontline focused on shooting enemies but you have some jobs to do to support your team:

  • BUFF, a team with buffed weapons is… guess what.
  • Block chokepoints or flank routes with turret and / or mines.
  • Defend obj if in defense
  • Care for Commposts

Eng is a very strong class. Maybe more important in defense than in ofense.

  • Learn where to set up your turrets.
Be prepaired to rebuild it / repair it often - it wont last long. Suprise the enemy.
  • Place mines at suprising spots. Right in front of the Obj. is not the best choice.

And…maybe Eng is not your class. So what. Go for another class that you enjoy to play
