I would like to ask players about the concept of an ammo station that regenerates special abilities instead of, well, you know, ammo. I’d like player feedback.

Energy Generator
Players near this have abilities cool down twice as quickly.

I am suggesting it as a replacement to Stoker’s or Kira’s ammo station, to encourage diversity in fire support classes.

I’m pretty sure the sole purpose of a fire support is to supply ammo. I think the ability is more suited for the engineer class.

I’d be worried of the impact of something like that on mercs that have weapon abilities, like Nader or Rhino. Can you imagine a Rhino parked between that and an Aura healing station? It would be like a TF2 Heavy “Gorky Parked” on a dispenser >:)

This, in a way, is supplying ammo to the team. Just, not necessarily the same ammo as the assault rifles use, instead being stuff like grenades for Nader’s GL and such. @Djiesse just gave a comment that would give more understanding as to why recharging abilities is a fire support ability.

Also, yeah, the energy generator is broken and needs prior testing and balancing before put to use. I only given the 2x multiplier as an example. It’s either very bad and not contributing to the team effectively, or too good and encouraging Skyhammer spam or the TF2 Dispenser strategy.

But nonetheless I think it’s a very cool ability to play with. Just… very difficult to make it fair.

Direct hits from ammo packs already decrease cooldown, though I think this device could fit.
