Enemy Territory: QUAKE Warsâ„¢ Announced!
A bit more info: http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/enemy-territory-quake-wars/614461p1.html
[BSS]GANG$TA:
its B.J Blazkowicz, not J.B.
and I really don’t know who this ‘we’ you are claiming to speak for is. The idea that SD would even think about completely changing the direction of game they’ve already spent a year working on is, err :weird:
edit:
this… http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/enemy-territory-quake-wars/617055p1.html is the url I meant to post
What I want:
- [BSS]GANG$TA to stop flaming people so I don’t have to ban him from our forums, and to understand that we’re not making the game he wants, and that this won’t change no matter how he asks.
That’ll do for now.
I just had to go back and check some of the posts when ET came out, same bitchin, don’t change this, rof sucks, make it same as rtcw, we WOLFIES need , bah, stfu, it ain’t a Wolfenstein game, it’s a FPS, and hopefully an excellent one, I’m not a big fan of alien bugs and vehicles, but maybe this one will change my mind
I was quite disapointed when i heard you were making quake wars and not a wolfenstein remake, i realy did think you were making RTCW2. :banghead:
I’m sure it’s going to be a great game, but i hate modern shooters, i like it fast and ww2, thats why i loved RTCW/ET.
I hope Quake wars does well as you deserve it after releasing such a great free game, i hope in the future you will make another great ww2 online shooter.
I’m now wondering what game studio is making RTCW2. :???:
Best luck SD.
I also don’t much enjoy fighting aliens, but that was a while ago. I’m not sure where I am on the concept at the moment. I hope my thoughts are swayed
This does look excellent.
Also, I hope in addition to the fighting of aliens, that we will get some chance to fight other human teams who may have been “influenced” or otherwise under alien control… And likewise, aliens vs aliens.
I find the one great thing about fighting other humans over aliens is that we have some innate concept within us which is sparked by aiming solely at the head… now i’m not saying the aliens may not have heads, they may in fact have more than one, but the fact remains that headshots “feel” like a human only attribute.
[BSS]GANG$TA, go tell that to id software instead, SD had a contract job for doing the MP portion for w:et, and that’s it. It’s NOT up to them to decide if they want to make rtcw2 or not, that’s id’s decision. I guess we all want to see rtcw2 too, but some of us actually plays more than one game at the time or at least are open for new games to consider.
This news totally rox!!! I couldnt be happier. Ive played rtcw & et for years now & the die hards need a change for sure
There is no other game with a class system like rtcw & et… The only thing id request is that there be some female skins
Cant wait to see more screenies I will be on the edge of my seat until its released!!
Ohhhh looking very nice SD!
I don’t know what all the whining is about tbh! it looks pretty cool, although i’ve just watched the trailer and it looks similiar to the Battlefield series… now don’t get me wrong! BF is ok… but the problem with it has already been brought up. What happens when Mr Nub gets in a 20 man troop transport and flys off on his own? I’ll be quite interested to see how you solve that one
But a word of caution… I beg you SD, please, please, please, please, please, please don’t let this game be anything like UT2k4. I know you probably have to use most of the quake weapons but a bit of realism goes a long way. Ok most people now are thinking “they’re making an alien vs human game and you want REALISM???” but think of the benefits. Actually having the weaponry futuristic but realistic… for instance take UT you’ve got a big uber plasma annihilator of death and you need about 10 shots to kill someone with it… one word BALLS. If a sniper rifle can take your head of I’m sure the uber plasma annihilator of death is gonna be a few steps up from it
I hope you continue the actual objectives styles you have from W:ET, like go blow up this fueldump… and not go for the “yea we want you to go and capture this flag thats in the middle of the enemy base because the enemy is bad and stuff so they can’t fly their flag there” crappy style objectives ala Day of Defeat.
But to sum up, no its not W:ET, it was never meant to be, but the scope for it is not as limited as doing a historically based war game. Imagine the posibilities of landing a small detachment of troops on a Strogg planet, getting them to take out the enemy’s planetery battery then seeing about 50 single man drop pods out of quake 2 rain down on the enemy strong hold… ahhh let the good times roll!!
GL with it boys
as long as its fast paced (and no slow realistic movement) I’m happy (this also counts for the vehicles -> crashing and killing are your teammates <3)
When asked about what kind of game modes Quake Wars would have, Cloud offered that the concept of game modes didn’t really apply, since each of the game’s missions will play out very differently. Some missions will be night ops missions that will involve tense, close-quarters battles augmented by the way the game will realistically model the physical properties of objects (walking on steel-plated floors will be noisier than walking on grass), for instance. However, in all missions, players will be rewarded not only for having excellent aim, but also for contributing to the team goals with points that will add to a persistent ranking system. The game will also further encourage teamwork by giving each player specific goals that should help new players figure out how to play their character classes, and should give players of all skill levels a good indication, at a glance, of what needs to be done to help win the match (beyond “hey, I’m bored, I think I’ll grab a vehicle that other players needed and drive around someplace”). In any case, both Wedgwood and Cloud reaffirmed their dedication to making Enemy Territory a challenging but balanced game that rewards skill and good teamwork, citing their lengthy development and support for the previous game as proof.
Just checked out the trailer and damn I’m impressed. When I first heard about ET:QW I thought it sounded great, after watching the trailer I also know it looks great. Excellent work guys!
Well done SD, its Ross here for those that know me. Great to see SD getting back to their roots in a way here. Lets all just remember for a moment kids, RTCW is a QUAKE engine, which is more than likely why they worked on it in the first place. RTCW I dont have a problem with, not my kind of game but I’d never have bitched about it the way some of you have regarding the migration to ‘future combat’.
Some of you really need to realise that these guys know what they are doing, you may not like some of the ‘specs’ of this game they have gone for - but what is this based on? Battlefield 1942 - which was mildy terrible in the first place? Or perhaps the failure that was UT2k4 ONS - which was oddly rather uninspiring even though it was based on a reasonably cool idea. Give it a chance people - its totally its OWN game - I have every faith in the guys that I know to produce an outstanding game.
Good luck guys Excellent work so far from what I can see…
we try to sum up all the goodies we find about ET:QW at www.eyeon-eSports.com - enjoy.
Quake 4 is just gonna be another Doom game. Based on screenshots, and how little some people pay attention to story line, I dont see a difference in the 2 games.
How do you know? Have you played it?
How about you wait until the game is out before making such impulsive comments?
2006 release, late 2006 for Xmas? Easter 2006? Can’t imagine it being a Summer release tbh, though let me know if I’m wrong
I’ve seen that demo about 30 times now in QuickTime (hires). Flicked through it frame-by-frame, backwards and forwards - still can’t quite believe how credible the action is.
There is a tank which appears to fire laser rounds, it’s a Strogg one - speaking of which, the scene where that Strogg creeps up on the unsuspecting tank guy is awsome, as is the chase scene where the flying mechanical bug thing is chasing one of the EDF (or whatever it is you are calling them) guys in a humbvee - there’s a large boulder in theway and the action continues as the humbvee goes one way and the 'flying mechanical bug’™ seperates off to avoid the boulder whilst keeping the pace in the chase.
Do you think there might be a public Demo for Xmas 2005? I can arrange for pizzas to be delivered to your offices FOC if that helps you in anyway
omg evilsock - what have you done to your avatar!!??? put the old one back on!
I think the game can be great, the screens look nice and also the fact that it will be class based is really cool.
but what i’m affraid of is that the game will be 2 big, how many ppl will u need 2 form a clan bout 32?
atm ppl @ rtcw are havin trouble finding enough players for every clan war. And if the game will be 2 big with the vehicles etc, there will never be a chance that the game will have a big comunnity.
look @ the bf&ut2004 communities lots of ppl play it, but not clan based.
Btw there’s no prob fighting stroggs (or wotever, although its sounds childish, and thats why the rtcw community is more mature then the quake community) as long as they dont have uber weapons etc. 1 of the great things about ET is that the weapons r balanced its not like when u r playin axis (or stoggs in et:qw case) that u have uber weapons. Because there is so little difference between the weapons of the 2 team hte game is more about skill.
And btw plz fuck the doom engine, runs crap on non-nvidia based pc’s. So dont go for the uber graphics and focus more on the gameplay, cus that is wot makes a game succesfull or not.
so i hope SD will take care of those probs and wont only go for the big cash.
