This is great news! Congratulations, Locki and the rest of the Splash Damage team. The premise got me all pumped, and I’m confident you guys can make a great game. Since after you guys started hiring people I knew you had something cooking, but in the end the announcement just blew me away. This is gonna be cool.
For people dissing it “because it’s not ET”: think about your position just a little. If you want to play ET, there’s ET. You can continue playing it. Nobody will steal it from you.
You just don’t seriously expect developers to release the same thing over and over again, do you? Personally, I think we should compliment Splash Damage for getting a project as big and as important as this one. This shows they’ve proved they can pull off some great gameplay, and now they have a new chance that they can do this with an AAA+ title. I’m not only happy for them, but happy because I expect we’ll get a hell of a good game.
Having your opinion set in stone and blaming a developer because they’re not doing what pleases your mind isn’t the right way to find something you like. I find it funny that 99% of the opinions right here on Splash Damage’s site - by ET ‘fans’ - are negative while, at the same time, the opinions are 100%+ positive on Shacknews.com, and people there are actually freaking out for a game like this. I was a heavy RTCW player myself and played a lot of ET and I’m really looking forward to this game; It’ll have stroggs, it will be set on the future? Yeah, but so what? It will still carry on the teamplay/class balance ET is known for, and the gameplay and care Splash Damage is know for, and that’s what’s good. Not the fictious date it’s set, or the nationality of the enemies.
Sincerely enough, haters can take their money elsewhere, or continue playing ET. Guess what: you have choice. Whining won’t take you anywhere.
