End Game on Configs

What is SD’s end game going to be on Custom Configs?

Is SD going to 100% Lock down the shooterengine.ini?

  • By Locking all changes will be made in Game Menu?
Is SD going to cap Values in the shooterengine.ini?

Will SD create a tweaking tutorial almost like the shooting one?

If tweaking is allowed a lot of 3rd party sights and YouTube videos might be made on how to tweak DB with might bring media to the game…

One of the biggest reasons I ask is I have seen a lot of Level 1 the past 2 weeks and during he next key release which might be big we are going to see a huge influx of players… These players are coming in with Default CFG and one of the first things the notice is how nice DB looks… The Second question the ask is how do I see my FPS? In game we tell them and they are like huh ok 30 or huh ok 60… And im like what! 60 total frames? Then they ask me what I am at… And I say max 357 and stead around 290’s… They are like wtf! Then I tell them that my SLI is off also! FYI SLI is still broke in this game… (Get Nvidia and ATI on the phone and have a nice talk)

The reason I bring this up again as stated in another post is people are only going to give this game a few hours and then stick with it or leave it. Maybe Default Config needs to be lowered a little so the minimum spec PC can still get 60 fps.

Speaking of CFG’s when we getting colored Names?

Eventually, we want have a pretty in-depth options menu to make it easy for everyone to do a lot of the things in-game that you guys do with editing. Whether or not manually editing the files is restricted once that functionality makes its way to the options has yet to be 100% decided.

Some of the changes you guys are making go quite far though, possibly farther than we would be happy with once the game goes live. It’s likely that you won’t be able to push things quite to the same extremes as you can now, as we approach Open Beta.

Totally understandable I mean we can totally break the game right now with CFG tweaking… You have seen the acid trip CFGs that people have put out. I was seeing how far I could push Lodbias yesterday and set all to 5 haha!!! All hit markers turned into a small acid trip block and stokers fire was 10 feet high haha!!! So I can see limiting that stuff to a max of 2 and may other setting.

I think the AA and the blurs, weather, leafs, decals, dynamic lights and basically everything under systemsetting in the CFG should be available some how… Turning the first 20 items to False greatly improves performance and doesnt totally whip out the game. The game still looks great.

I am glad you guys are looking into this and taking it serious because it is a big part in game play.

We will be adding min/max clamps to any value with feel needs it in the configs, there’s a lot there that can currently be abused or break the game.

Also anything we want players able to adjust we do plan to have in an advanced options menu, so we may end up preventing any config editing in the long run once we’re happy we’ve got everything.

what about riva-tuning graf so low, that players get visible advantage?
will there be an ‘extreme low bar for PR@ gamers’ so that rivatuning is obsolete?

To make the game run as best as it possible can on min-spec machines we will be introducing a ‘Minimal’ (below Low) setting at some point with the best-performing (lowest) values for every variable we want players able to changes.

Very Cool! The “wannabe” pro gamer is like nooo but the “wannabe Pub Star” is like yes a fairly even playing ground with less excuses and a game that is balanced for all players.

With what you and Sil said are you looking at tweaking the ingame Menu to be more user friendly? Dont get me wrong the menu has come a long way BUT when you click video you are overwhelmed by a list of YES and NO… I am sure a Video tab with clean breaks, sub menu lines or even sub menus could be added so not everyone when they first get the game is going down the line and clicking everything to NO!

-Maybe the Very First things in Video are Mercs and Maps (High, Mid, Low, Pro) (Pro might be Low maps and High Mercs with a few tweaks that doesnt slow down FPS but makes the mercs clearer…)

-(VIDEO LOOK) Maybe the first 10 list in the video are what SD feels are the standard players switch to NO…

-(VIDEO FEEL) Then a Line or Sub Menu for AA or things that will cause Blur, Field of Depth and others that Can be swtiched to no that effect the feel of the game.

-(VIDEO MERC) Some setting like Lodbias can make mercs and their sized look different at distance. Maybe in another menu you can have a list of thinks that will give a warning when you change them?

  • Example: Are you sure you want to change whateverLodbias to 2? Warning this will make mercs or maps less clear and might alter your enemy’s visual size and hitbox size prospective.

  • Example 2: FloatingPointRenderTargets=False… Are you sure you want to turn FloatingPointRenderTargers to False? This will create a halo effect around the crosshair and is not proven to improve FPS.

Side Questions again: Colored Names

  • SLI optimization in the works?

I hope at some point SD ask for a list of everything we’re tweaking currently and would like added to the in-game menu.
