Encouraging people to use le headset

(IG THOMBOW) #1

God, how much I want people to use their headset. I’ve been playing all the missions in versus at least twice and there is not one single mother****er out there who uses a mic.

Maybe it would be a good idea to put in an instruction video on communication (“use objective wheel to let your team know what you’re doing, mic is even better”) or make a new ‘protip’ in the loading screen saying: “Use of a headset is highly encouraged in this game to optimise teamwork.” or something.

Would be fun.

EDIT: THIS IS FOR 360.

Fix the sound and I’ll make myself look like a call girl.

Splash Damage, in their infinite idiocy, actively inhibits voice communication. Voice comm is off by default for servers and is hard to activate. Even if they dig into the config file and change the needed values, I believe that only gets all-talk and not team-talk. And, even if all-talk is enabled, there are some values they put that make it so when you do use your mic the volume is low as **** and nobody can hear you anyways. Fireteam chat is enabled by default, though you’d have to take time away from the game to set up the fireteams. I’ve been trying to use my mic, but nobody ever responds.

Stupid game is stupid.

(stealth6) #4

anybody know what the cvars are?
And is there a way to see if it’s activated or not? I tried it out, but all it seemed to do for me was mess up teamspeak, didn’t notice anything ingame.

To be honest, almost every single game I’ve ever played online with voice chat that /wasn’t/ an MMO or RTS has had the majority of the time spent using the feature overwhelmed by spammers/abusers/excitable children.

I would still like to see voice chat in Brink, in fact I want it quite a bit, but I will probably regret it if/when we get it.

edited OP for the sake of clarity.

Can’t see it happening out of the box. If you wanna play with headsets, get on IRC and find a crew willing to set up a ventrillo server or something.

Unless team talk is enabled, “all talk” becomes team talk once the rounds start. Problem solved there. Most servers I’ve been on have VOIP on. Problem solved there. This is where the problem is.
By default your VOIP volume for inbound and outbound are set to -6 when all your other sound options are set to 0. You will need to set your VOIP in and out to 0. So does everyone else until a patch comes out to fix it. I have posted these instructions in many places, guess I will have to post them again:
If you pull down your console and type s_volume you’ll see that all the levels are at 0 (by default) except for s_volume_voipin_db and s_volume_voipout_db are both set to -6 by default. So if you change both of those to 0 you will have better VOIP on servers that have VOIP enabled!
And in case you don’t know how to get to console, go to steam, right click brink. Go to properties and you will see “Launch options”. In there type “+com allow_console 1” without the quotations. You can now open the console by using the tilda (~) key next to 1. Another helpful launch option is “+set com_bootLogo 0” without the quotations. This second launch option will disable the intro videos when you start the game up.

Hello? . . .Seems you don’t understand he was just trying to help either

Even changing the mic volumes for yourself, like you said, still nobody will be able to hear you because no one else is changing them so you will continue to be unheard and unable to communicate in a friggen co-op game.

I like how the Creative Director said in a machinima interview that the programmers have like a txt file with a ****ton of cvars that they can change easily that will result in immediate balance and improve the game.

So it’s like WELLTHEN WHAT THE **** ARE YOU WAiTING FOR, SPLASH DAMAGE!? It’s been days where a bunch of fixable, game-ruining problems haven’t been addressed that should’ve been worked out BEFORE LAUNCH. They’re off partying it up with all the money you stole from us, I’m sure.

(IG THOMBOW) #12

I know, but the OP clearly stated this was for 360.

EDIT: Also trypsinogen or whatever the hell your name is, stop spamming the forums with you DIS GAME SUX HERP stuff. We know you don’t like it, now gtfo. Whining and ranting won’t get you anywhere, your childish and immature behavior will cause everyone (but the other trolls) to ignore you.

I play with friends on xbox with mics, we do so much better with the little messages just to keep each other working, I like the objective wheel and I can play without mic with people just fine but the mic is definitly a buff for the player
