Elite case prices (Euro / Dollar)

(Eddie) #1

It just came to my attention that Elite cases are the following prices

10 Cases = 35 Dollar.
10 Cases = 35 Euro.

According to the Dollar/Euro exchange rate it should be

35 USD

30.7965 EUR

i bought 25 cases (got all silvers btw, Thanks) -Yes i know it’s luck based and it’s the same augments as bronze. i bought them for the cosmetic purpose-

Its the same with every game. US always gets cheaper stuff. Get used to it.
Its not about fairness, its just… american.

That really is not true. There are many fair publishers that use actual FX rates.

If I look at what money buys me in DB, I feel sick anyways. Sure, I would like to spend money for nicer skins. However, my rational part of the brain is prohibiting spending on so much RNG. First, a merc that I like, then a loadout that doesn’t suck (usually only 2 good ones per merc) and then another 20 percent to get something better than silver. In case of gold, you would also need to hope that it’s a red one (in my opinion far superior to the other skin-type)
The chances to get something that I would be happy about is so low, we need scientific notation to keep it readable.

Seriously, I would like to spend money, but I get buyers remorse by thinking about that. the 1 EUR = 1 USD just pisses me off even more.

i learned my lesson, Those elite cases were my last purchase on Dirty Bomb. Why? It’s expensive and the dollar to euro prices need to be changed.
Also, What’s up with the people that bought Fragger. Suddenly theres a free key for him. i actually bought Fragger with 50k Credits. My motivation for playing the game is just fading away too quickly.

Takes too long to get the stuff u want, and if u decide to pay for the stuff u want u won’t get it.

Even steam has gotten better, charging fewer euros relatively for a lot of games. It would be nice if DB could get on board.

i have no idea if this is the case here but often the way sales tax works is responsible for the dollar to euro issue. us Europeans have our sales tax/vat baked in but in the USA its added on top.

i also dont like the RNG element of purchases it puts me off buying anything outside the starter pack.

The elite cases are already expensive, but the poor currency conversion makes it even more expensive for those using euros or pounds. I’ve been saying this since real money purchases were added in game, but especially from my perspective:

An elite case is $4.99 or £3.99 however $4.99 converts to £3.14 -this is the same with all in game purchases, it makes it effectively 20% more expensive to buy in the UK vs. the US.

I’ve bought a merc and the starter pack because I felt I was getting enough out of it even at the inflated price (and wanted to support a game I’ve sunk a lot of hours into!), but for the long term “micro” transaction purchases like cases, as much as I want some, I just can’t justify that. If one case was closer to £2.99? That’d change things.

SteamDB shows all the currency comparisons using the starter pack price. Hopefully this will get some attention, but otherwise I’ll be waiting until there are better ways to spend my money on the game.

I understand where you’re coming from when it comes to paying more for the Ultimate Starter Pack, but if you’re buying elite cases it’s truly for cosmetics. If you don’t think it’s worth the price, then don’t buy them. Yes, it would be nice to have them evened out but either way you’re paying so much because you wanted to, if you don’t want to just don’t, that simple.

The thing is it shouldn’t matter what the individual item is - the same can be said for purchasing specific bronze loadouts, bundles, or mercs. The price difference applies everywhere - whether I think elite cases are worth the money for a shot at cosmetics with the RNG involved is a whooooole other discussion.

You’re right overall, if I don’t think it’s worth it, don’t buy it - and that’s exactly what I’ll be doing. It doesn’t mean there’s not an issue that could be looked at to change my (and others from the UK/Europe) mind in the long term, for the current and future items they add to the store.

3.5 euro for just one RANDOM case is simply nuts. Now only a small group buys them. If they’d lower the prices, a lot more people would buy these on a regular basis.

Name me a few games that use fair exchange rates for NA and EU servers ?
Its just in every game ive played its exactly the same thing and sometimes its even like double difference.

Yeah, ive heard that. I asked quite a few ppl who are into international and commercial law, and they say its not an issue in this case(ive been given a long and detailed explanations, 90% of which i didnt understand, but essentially it boils down to convenience for publisher, eg. they can so they do).

(Eddie) #12

Yeah, Me personally bought 25 Cases to far total cost was 90 Euro. After that i found out the Dollar/Euro part. Now i’ll wait until thats fixed. and maybe the prices of elite cases going down.

i mean 5 euro for 1 RANDOM case (Silver,Gold,Cobalt) is just a rip off imo.
Now u do get 10 for 35 euro which is 3,50 euro a case but even that’s kinda high.

oh and 25 Cases (elite) got me 25 silvers. Either its bugged or im out of luck

I feel like the 80% chance at a silver is a little high, but I guess it’s preserving the “value” of cobalts and golds. I have my fingers crossed they’re working on a more robust long term solution, such as seasonal cases with unique skins, that means the basic loadout system can be made a little more approachable.
