EGE: My Impressions

(Auzner) #61

No one thought to bring their own mouse and keyboard to stand in line with?

(Shiv) #62

yes… and plug it into the freely available usb slots… o wait.
Isn’t playing without your own cfg just as awkward as
playing with a controller you’re not used to?
sorry, no.

(light_sh4v0r) #64

Unless your keybinds are way off the norm and you’ve been using them for a long time, I’d say wasd+mouse>controller for PC gamers.

(BioSnark) #65

In my experience the mouse => stick aiming is a far bigger jump than the difference between any keyboard movement layouts… even if the right and left movement keys were reversed or something similarly far fetched.

As the person who was recorded in the latest vid I can tell you first hand it was filmed on the show floor of PAX with me playing with and against 7 other members of the public. So there really was no opportunity for me to politely ask the public to let me kill them such that we filmed a good demo, I just tried my best to play
And yeah when there’s the pressure of a camera filming your every move, it makes it all the harder, so yep I did make mistakes too.
It’s a shame they didn’t show the full recording as we went on to win the match and there was some great teamplay moments later on.

(tokamak) #67

A good premeditated demo wouldn’t have a guy aiming at the legs :stuck_out_tongue:

Don’t get me wrong , it wasn’t just a rage post , I was afraid the SD go for same thing as APB developers.

Part of a Luke Halliwell’s Weblog (how realy work gameplay presentation)–

“We would constantly find ways to avoid showing features off or talking openly about the product. Press interest was built by incredibly elaborately-constructed demos, choreographed with clockwork precision. Our team of QA ninjas trained night and day so as to be able to act out the same scripted combat scenario on demand (they were actually pretty impressive to watch doing this!). At first, the press would just watch these sessions as examples of “live” gameplay. Later, they’d be allowed to join in, but would be so outnumbered by our staff that they would be forced to stay on the rails of our script.”

I played ETQW very long time , and I know how hard the bomb plant can be, and u just did it from first try, and after it u stand with 1/90 , and not reloading, it was a bit… strange for me. Anyway im must say sorry, coz I was wrong.

What did you expect? 2 hardened teams of veterans playing against each other? Brink is a new IP and the people playing have never played (or possibly seen) the game before.

(tokamak) #70

Still wouldn’t mind seeing a battle of two teams of hardened veterans

(Kinjal) #71

Bomb plant in Brink is much harder , u just stand like a statue for 7 seconds, so its not about veterans. The thing is – Guy who was planting before Fluffy, was dead in 2 seconds.

(potkettleblack) #72

Its seems more difficult in the respect that each Soldier is accountable for their own plant.
You cant finish off someone elses charge, as the charging happens before its placed on the objective. Also, and I could be wrong about this - but it seems theres only one spot for you to place the charge… as well as the elimination of multiple charges.

The positive side of making a player a sitting duck in a predictable spot is - theres more importance on killing the enemy trying to defend the objective. You cant just run in plant and hope for the best - you have to play the way you do in pro etqw matches.

Kill everyone first, then plant, collectively push out to the various routes to the objective, then kill everyone again and wait for the charge to blow.

(Nail) #73

who would have thought that one of the developers might do well against people seeing/playing the game for the first time

(DarkangelUK) #74

I’m sure I’m remembering this correctly, but one thing that just popped into my head is that there were no hitsounds. It wasn’t a big deal as the XP counter made it obvious the shots were connecting.

EDIT: Jeez I keep remembering more stuff, though some may already know this. Each objective has a 10min timer, so if you finish the 1st one with 1 min to go, that then resets for the 2nd one and you get another 10mins. I found this much better than the likes of ETQW where you could be held for 20mins on the 1st objective with no hope of completing.

I believe container city has 4 objectives. 40 minute matches… awesome stuff! cough

(DarkangelUK) #76

Had 3 from where I was sitting. Blow the gate, escort the bot and get the bag to the helicopter. Is this your much loved worst case scenario replies again? Where every section will last 9:59 mins…

(tokamak) #77

So 30 minutes max, that reminds me of that other TERRIBLE game by SD.

(SebaSOFT) #78

Isn’t the Crane stuff mandatory? I would call it 4 objectives, then

(DarkangelUK) #79

Oh yeah forgot the crane, whoops.

(tokamak) #80

So 20 minutes to drive the entire bot?
