EGE: My Impressions

(DarkangelUK) #21
Thanks for the massive post.

You said you played operative DA, what I would like to know is :

 1. When you place a hackbox on something, can another operative use the same hackbox?
 2. Does your hackbox dissapear once youre dead? Or does it stay there until an engie destroys it?
There were no hack objectives on this map so i can’t really answer those questions i’m afraid.

@Jammydodger

Yes you can post it

@Maawdawg

I naturally pushed down the left stick to begin with, but this is your self buff/revive option. I could see a feasibility of swapping B and left stick button with each other.

(potkettleblack) #22

Oh, you didnt hack a turret? ok :c

(Kinjal) #23

Do I get it right, u think old schoolers and et fans enjoy playing Brink on a x-box controller? I mean , after reading sum post like “i tried to remember howto use an xbox controller”(Jubag) and “Now being a PC player, I knew I was going to be crap with a controller”(Darkangel) , Im not sured about it. Yes, controller are better then nothing, but I cant imagin how ppl who made ET and ETQW(totally PC games) , now sitting in SD office and play Brink on x-box 360. “At this point I feel the controller system let me down, I had to hold down X to repair the bot, but my crouch button was B… so short of having to lift my hand off the controller, there was no way to crouch and repair at the same time, which left my head wide open for anyone to have a popshot at… and they did, quickly.” – I don’t see enjoyable things here.

(tokamak) #24

Nobody is forced to play with a controller when the game is released. A controller has limitations that are to be accepted for wanting to play on a console.

(Kinjal) #25

Im not seen any Brink PC footage or reviews, so why I most be sured about controls and rest? I still think I have a big chance to play Brink x-box 360 version port to pc, like sum sort of Aliens vs Predator 2010. I don’t see PC support at all. So why it cant be -“A Keyboard has limitations that are to be accepted for wanting to play on a PC.”

mappable controls would be best, or an option to make the switch you suggested with buff/crouch. If they don’t have that the fallback option would be the crouch toggle I mentioned in my post. Hopefully one of the three solutions is there, for me on a controller a toggle crouch mapped to the left stick would be pretty much perfect.

Man you’re a negative fella eh Kinjal?

(DarkangelUK) #28

I myself can’t wait to see some proper m/kb gameplay, but in defense of EGE, the crowd there were a very obvious console majority, to a point where i’d say 90% would have been put off playing on a m/kb set up and would be screaming for a controller, so it’s understandable that they had controllers. I understand what you’re saying, and i’m sure SD do as well, but EGE just wasn’t the place for it.

They had Crysis 2 set up with controller and a couple of machines with a mouse keyboard, there was hardly anyone on the m/kb. With the crowd gathering to play Brink, I don’t think they could’ve sacrificed a couple of machines for m/kb play, or it would’ve pushed the wait for the controllers to 3hrs more than likely.

Weirdly i kinda like the writeup, only thing is : isnt there ANY negative points? Its cool to tell us how your day went but I would gladly hear some bit of technical info, not sure if its possible considering you didnt have many gameplay time but still.

Oh and, I’m with kinjal on this also, to me the biggest part in a first person shooter, even a tactical one, is the shooting part, how come we can be confident about this part if we dont see any PC footage? Even if autoaim isnt as bad as it is in CoD series I still fail to see how come a pc player can be blind to the point he gladly accept any review/video on this played on a controller (nothing personal, speaking in general).

As chris pointed out, glad the game is fun tho, it’ll one of the most important part indeed, but without pretty badass gameplay you cant expect a game to have decent lifespan IMO.

Peace, keep it coming!

(DarkangelUK) #30

It was kinda hard to find any outright negativities due to the fact I was on a controller. A lot of the frustrations I found were mostly down to me not being able to use it very well. The obvious stuff such as the low jump height, the gameplay speed being at edge of playable with the medium body, and issues with crouching at the time of performing actions etc. I highlighted already.

(tokamak) #31

Your speed complaints sound like music to my ears actually. Being used to heavy TF2 and RS and all.

You mustn’t. I want to see how the game plays on the PC, if Brink already plays better than QW on a console then imagine what it could be like on a PC, so why do’t display that?

At 4:50 there is some of the “Brink for Dummies”, probably not all of it though.
Thanks for that link! It was a great quick overview of the different classes. Hey SD, is there any way you could release that video so I could show it to my clanmates? See, there’s a bunch of the guys who play the CoD/BFBC2 thing right now and they have shown some slight interest in Brink so far. I think if I could show them a video which shows them the fun options in the different classes then it might pique their interest more. I guess I could show them that shaky-cam if nothing else… Thanks!

(Nail) #33

yeah, I’m sure SD has forgotten how to do M/KB since W:ET and ET:QW

(potkettleblack) #34

Im sure sd will work hard to ensure the pc controls feel like pc controls and not console trash.
Otherwise, it wont even warrant a place in the 10 dollar bargain bin.

I hope so ! but we saw nothing from the pc version so … wait and see …
PC players are now in the background !!

(-RedFox-) #36

Haha, my thoughts exactly! =]

(Nikto) #37

we have seen the pc-version, what we have not seen is the m/kb setting.

(tokamak) #38

(engiebenjy) #39

Yeah great writeup, cannot wait to play brink… the brink for dummies video looked very professional - i guess you will release this in the build up to release - like on psn etc

(needforWeed) #40

I still think that one command post isn’t enough for 8 players. There will be waiting queue a damn breadline you know. Everyone wanna change a class at once after one objective is done or something. Command post will be a perfect spot for camping/spawnkilling. How many ppl can use the damn thing together?
