Hah, nice video, nice Echo! (lol I was the honorable last frag of teh film! need to tbag Smooth next time :P)

I wonder if there’s news on last recording session with multiple crashes - any chance the server demos worked?

they took footages from it for Echo

Perhaps this is why no-one would answer me when I kept asking what the video was for.

I like surprises, but what I like even more are surprises when I know what they’re going be.

(Ashog) #24

BTW, so that means that if a server crashes, unreal engine demos are still readable and uncorrupted? Wow.

(mitsuhiko) #25

Echo uses a separate event reporting system that’s independent of the unreal spectator replay.

(tokamak) #26

Ashog was referring to yesterday when the video recording server crashed.

(Ashog) #27

Oh ok. But can you confirm, out of my curiosity, were those yesterday’s server demos broken?

(mitsuhiko) #28

I honestly don’t know. SRS-Kap would be the person that would know.

Not sure if you guys remember.

Firstly i player retail ETQW…
Then i started to make a map (the first of some), and play matchs on my map (on Nirvana server) and other users maps, sure…
Then i continued to make maps, stoped to play, and started to watch demos (and make movies).

You guys can remember my topics asking for demos. I received many many demos and watched it for many many hours. I had more demos than i can watch.

They send me it by email, uploaded in internet. My private messages was full of nice people giving me demos!

I gone nuts when Scrupus started to record, by default, all the Nirvana matchs, as server demos.

I changed from player to demo watcher.

You can do reverse playback in echo?

There is great delight in watch demos.

oh, those where the days Donnovan

And if you remember, that was exactly why we started to record those server demos - so mappers could download them after a new map release and check the gameflow, from a server point of view

Well that’s why I really love this new way of alphatesting - I think SD is doing something really interesting here by including players so early in the process, it’s a win win for everyone. And extremely fun, feels just like the good old custom Nirvana days, where every new map release was an exiting highlight for the custom players, just like the patches here :oppressor:

I know it it will be tricky to combine f2p with custom modding and maps, but I really hope SD find a good way to provide it, and offer and SDK including ECHO support at some point. I would happily sacrifice one leg and an eye to get my hand on those… :infiltrator:

(I still have 4 years of custom ETQW demos archived btw - 25 GB of custom madness  )

(Violator) #31

Yeah those demos were incredibly useful Scrupus  For me getting the map timings, chokepoints and flow are the hardest part by far when mapping - Echo will be a fantastic tool to help with this :). The fact that it will be available as a webservice hopefully means 3rd party devs will have access.

(INF3RN0) #32

Maybe we should start trying to have balanced games with focus on objectives to give Echo some real data to track! Fragging alpha makes mom proud, but we lose de game when the EV sits in spawn for 5mins bawwwwwwwwww :(. I bet the knife kpm stats are skyrocketing though :D!

(iwound) #33

only way that would happen would be if we got some VIP matches going. get into some 4 or 5 player fixed teams and fight for something.

btw there’s one thing echo cant record and that’s fun. that’s what were here for.

(DarkangelUK) #34

A shuffle option is needed as well. Surely I can’t be the only one to notice the same names spread down 1 side of the team roster…

(Ashog) #35

Yes, Don the Bob, we remembar that. But for now, there are no demos for you, so get your bum on the server. NOW!

(Ashog) #36

Don;t know about the leg but the eye thing won’t work. According to the picture, if you punch yourself the other eye out, you get blind, which is of no use for working with any version of SDK, be it with Echo support or not.

(SockDog) #37

Agreed and I’d go as far as saying that this is probably a good time to try some of the crazier balancing options like mid game shuffles or instead of ending a match when the timer on the objective expires why not do an auto balance.

A good way to describe this : In-Love
