Eben-Emael Pre-Alpha Screenies

(MadJack) #21

lol

How many times do I have to say it? Detailing is NOT DONE :stuck_out_tongue: lol

Though image #12 will most likely stay very close to what it is because it’s the desinfection chamber… It HAS to be clean  Only some lights and maybe a model or two will make it in later.

:drink:

yeah i dunno, i thought details=eye candy but i guess i was wrong

speaking of eye candy it must suck for most mappers to make nice good-looking maps when most people use high-fps cfgs, i mean my et looks like shit, r_picmip 3/r_fastsky 1 etc. its more important for me to see and have high fps than the looks of the map.

i get the feeling sometimes that mappers dont make maps for people to play but rather so they can show the maps to other mappers and get credit for nice skyboxes and stuff i dont even know the name of :x and that kinda sucks imo

dont take this personally, this is rather meant as a summary of my disappointment with must custom maps, i bet they look nice but who cares when they’re huge and not playable 6vs6/7vs7/8vs8.

(MadJack) #23

Hey stix… How about getting a decent computer and video card?

I don’t have any problems with my Radeon 9800 Pro  I can run all maps and usually stay around 80-90 FPS with max settings.

I know most people don’t have that kind of hardware but if you really want to experience the maps, open ET and bring those settings at a nice level and walk around. I don’t know how you do that but I can’t stand playing in something shitty looking. Ask any mapper and they’ll tell you the same more or less. I personaly don’t know any mapper that doesn’t want his/her map to look good.

I"ll finish by adding that it’s easy to add eye candy when it’s already in the map (low settings) than to make a shitty map good looking.

hi, fast reply

i got an amd2500@3200+gf5700+512 ddr pc3200 so the hardware isnt really an issue for me even though better hardware would be nice of course (feel free to donate ^^)

actually i have a demo.cfg with high quality settings/1024 etc and i get a steady 76 fps with it.

the thing is that i dont really want to experience the maps, its much more important for me to kill the enemy and win than to die in beautiful surroundings. I think its like this for most people who play more than a couple of times a week, and you can improve your aim by changing your cfg, ive tried playing with high quality settings and it is harder imo.

i realize a community needs both high level players and good looking maps (to attract new people) but somehow i got the feeling mappers generally tend to spend 80% of their time making their maps good looking/coming up with new weird objectives/reading history and 20% (if so much) making it playable. I mean there’s like 3-4 playable maps right now (railgun, radar, goldrush, supplydepot) and about a zillion crap maps. And the community would benefit from some more good custom maps since we wont be getting any from splash damage  I mean people play mp_base in matches, how sick is that?

I dont know, maybe its not important for mappers that anyone play their map, but i which it was

btw, this is my cfg: http://193.11.250.10/~esh/oasis.jpg

Posting it here as well, can anyone help me?

Hello,

I know I’m going way offtopic on this one, but still, i hope some one can help me. By luck, I managed to find this site / forum. Started reading a bit and so on… when suddenly, I encounterd something familiar. But first, let me please introduce myself.

My name is Bart and I live in Belgium, my two main hobbys are the history of the Second World War and Gaming. I also am a Guide at the Fortress of Eben-Emael, and when I was searching through this forum, i noticed that someone was busy making an ET map of the fortress.

Unfortianatly, MadJack’s website is offline and I’m not getting a response from any Private Message I sent. Allways willing to help, I would like to help MadJack on his mission to make this map come true, but as I said, he isn’t responding at all.

Does anyone know any other website of him, or does anyone know him in private? If yes, could you tell him that there is someone curious after his Eben-Emael plans, and that I would like to offer some help.

Again, I know this is way offtopic, but I really hope somebody could help me …

Best regards from Belgium,

Bart Geraerts,
Guide Fortress Eben-Emael.

I only see an X. For the pictures.

p.s.
Some mappers do hang out on #wwgn on gamesurge

I guess that you are hosting the pics at your own PC/server, and that they are only up when you are online.
Could you please, host your pics at a 24 hour server ? Something like Image Shack ™
Thanks,

As I read many positive commentaries about the map, I am very curious about the images

(FireFly) #29

My best guess is that MadJack does not have an internet connection anymore or either stopped mapping / taking a break…
He made his last post here on the SD forums on october 3th.
That is over 2 and a half months ago. And he isn’t responding to private messages sent to him.

I just hope he comes back soon…

(Junkers) #30

That was my way of thinking too FireFly… still hope, that, by a magical way, he reappears, and continues his coding

(Schaffer) #31

I had dealings with him during the middle of the year where he was making a map called reinforce. I have his email but I’m not posting that. if you are in real need of contacting him then PM me your email and a message and I will forward this to him. You might be lucky and here back. I havn’t be frequenting the forums of much recently and I also havnt heard from him for since back in July. That was about the time I went undergroun with Uni and I dont think I ever resurfaced when it finished :frowning:

(Junkers) #32

Thanks Schaffer!

Be my guest to send me a PM!

Then I’ll hope I’ll get a replie

(Junkers) #33

Well, I’ve started modeling myself… just plain and simple with Anim8or, a free 3D animating program, may be not as expanded as e.g. 3D Max, but it’s great for novices as me

Now, point is… I’m making (at least, trying) some of the bunkers of the fortress in 3D. I would also like to do the inside of certain things (casemates, turrets, etc), but I don’t know if Anim8or is capable of doing so. Guess it would be easyer with some sort of Radiant, problem is, my computer has had severe crashes, and the result of them is that my RAM memory as well as my grafick memory, has dropped to almost nothing… so even rendering stuff with anim8or takes A LOT of time…

Well, as soon as I have some updates, I will post em overhere.

Yours,
Bart Geraerts

(zl1corvette) #34

I think bunkers and stuff like that should really be made in Radiant, unless your really comfortable with modeling/skining in a modling app.

(Junkers) #35

I can work pretty good with Anim8or, but I just can’t work with a radient… guess i’m too noobish for that

(eRRoLfLyNN) #36

You should give Radiant a try. It’s not as difficult as I think you think it is, if you know what I mean!

Making a Q3-based map entirely out of models wouldn’t be a good idea I think, but I’m sure someone will correct me if i’m wrong

(Junkers) #37

eRRoLfLyNN, I’m not planning on making the whole fortress in 3D with a modeling program… 75 hectares dude… we held the reputation of THE most biggest fortress of western Europe so
