easygen textures, terrain manipulation, blending

got several questions for ya:

ok long time ago, 2 years ago, i did a bit of mapping for rtcw, just goofin around, but using easygen i had no problems getting the textures to come into radiant. however, now im not getting the textures to come into radiant w/ the .map, it just gives me the common/terrain texture. am i missing something, need to check a box in easygen to apply the textures? its all pretty in easygen, seeing the textures on there.

call of duty (which i was mapping for) uses terrain meshes, which are nice and a complete pain in the butt at the same time. theres this nifty tool that allows you to smooth terrain and paint alpha and such so you can blend, when one texture includes PolygonOffset in its shader file:

thats what i was working on, now im trying to use easygen to recreate it for ET. you can see the transition between road and grass and sand (yeah, it looks crappy). does the LDR explain how to do this? how about how to edit terrain height easily? i hope its not dragging vertices…

so…

  1. how do i get the terrain textures into radiant?
  2. does the LDR explain effectively how to blend?
  3. whats the best way of editing terrain height, shape post-easygen?

  1. The terrain textures wont show in radiant, all you will get is the common/terrain texture on all of your terrain. It will show up in the game just fine, but you wont be able to see the individual textures in radiant.

  2. dunno

  3. I dont think you can do too much to edit your terrain in radiant… But (and ill probably get slammed for saying this), if the widths of your terrain subdivisions are whole numbers, you can select a series of brushes that share a vertex in radiant, select that vertex (using the ‘v’ key) and raise or lower it.
