Easygen - again!

(Grand_Mister_P) #1

Really sorry for this the third thread ive had to make about this cursed program. I just cant seem to get it to work. Now as you may/may not know im very new to the ET mapping area, and hence really dont understand how everything works.
What i am attempting to create is a small range of mountains around my map, much like the spawn on Siwa Oasis. However i dont want anything special, i just want easygen to generate the terrain for me, so i dont have to spent days making tiny brushes and cutting them up to how i want them, As such i have no idea about shaders really (other than for a good working sky i need to use one) and alpha maps. Hence i have no idea what the options for them change when im exporting a map. So leaving them at default i exported it, popped a sky box, death match and red/blue starts and the max/min coords on top and compiled. However theres around 24000 brushes in the easygen terrain, and it seems to crash at some light bit of the compile. (blue busy light no longer flashes and after leaving it for about 3/4 of an hour still nothing. So then i tried playing with the radiant plug-in that does it, all seemed to be going well but in comipling i get some daft errors along the lines of
ERROR
MAX_MAP_LEAFFACES

Ive had another one about lines too.

Any ideas? (coz i sure as hell hope so!)

Many thanks

Ok, for the mountains, either put them into the heightmap you’ve already done, or you could make a new easygen .map but with four strips you could use as the mountain range. You just have to be careful when attaching them in Radiant, no other way that I know of (apart from making the heightmaps the same brightness value around the edges where you’re going to link :)).
Also, have a play around with GTKGensurf in Radiant, it’s in the plugins menu. Although that may not be a good way of doing it. But it is another way of creating small amounts of terrain.

Check out this thread, it’s on limits and may help you with the MAX_MAP_LEAFFACES. Although i’m not sure how you could go about reducing this. Have you only done your easygen terrain without any other building?

Yep, It would probably be easier to just add them into your heightmap… although, if as in the other thread you have already exceeded one of the axes, you may need to do the strips thing :S

Have fun
