When we’re at an obvious spawn camp situation, we usually back up a bit to let the team out and complete the first obj. Especially at CC.
Last night was hilarious though. We backed up with 4 minutes remaining and they still didn’t come out and plant a charge. They had 7 humans on their team, with 4 assaults, and nobody planted a single charge! Wtf???
maybe: some relatively new people are still learning the basics of the game, and the DLC may have brought a lot of people back (who haven’t played in a while), or others who are new altogether (see: brink as top 5 selling console game last week or so - amazon sales, etc.)
it’s possible that the few people who knew what to do weren’t soldiers, or that they were sick of that map, and just wanted it over.
but i remember some of my early runs in brink, playing as soldier, running around the aquarium double door (with a clear opportunity to plant the charge) but not doing it…(if only I’d checked the objective wheel, lol)…it’s a little embarrassing when the bot finally comes in and does it for you while you’re standing there.

Trial by fire. Sink or swim.
We are breaking bad habits I guess. Like, the ones who refuse to switch to the obj class. For example, if you see all the medics are down, or a team mate, and you are a soldier not far from a command post, you can quickly go to a Command Post and switch to a medic, revive your teammates, then switch back to soldier. Stuff like that I do, but will see others not do. Also, I’ve been trapped and still managed small victories (in my book) like being able to plant, hack, fix on my own, while my team is afraid to advance. I’ve joined random matches on CC where my team is already trapped in spawn. I’ve gone over the wall captured the command post, got on the MG nest knocked down a bunch of dudes, and kept at it until we were able to plant and blow the gate. You can go around via the crane very discreetly, set up mines, and turrets and shoot at the enemy coming out of spawn. Some of the dummies will be drawn to my trap and if I make enough of a nuisance they will chase me as I run away from the crane. Meanwhile, it can provide an opening for my team.
(I) Agree with all this. (we seem to share a similar strategy for C City - small victories ftw! (and sometimes they lead to larger ones!). if all 16 players are simply running into the buzzsaw that is the chokepoint at the gate, it’s gonna get ugly (and frankly boring).
but my “favorite” is when i jump into a c city match on Sec side, and it’s 5-8 humans on one side (+bots) and 1-3 humans on the Sec side, and there are turrets at the top of the spawn stairs, mines and satchel charges everywhere, and 2-3 snipers and 2-3 heavies + whatever else just mowing folks down. at this point, my small victory is just getting over the wall. (to the walkway that is also mined) lol.
also, there’s a difference between swimming lessons (not advocating this), throwing them in the deep end (not a bad way to learn) and holding their head under water (rage quit)

Frustrate and confound the Spawn Trappers FTW! They get soooo mad (you can tell because they will ignore the gate later when they respawn and chase you if you run away from the gate) when you mow them down from the MG nest (most ignore) while their backs are turned towards the gate. As if there for this very purpose? Te he he. All the fatties lay low at the left side of the gate so are great to mow down while they are focused on waiting for a soldier to shoot. Knock down three on this side of the wall and the tide just turned. Keep an eye out for the respawners and mow them down too.
I’ve been chased to the other side of the map where the bot cuts open the shed. Meanwhile, the gate gets blown. ha ha ha! Also works doing this as Operative, jumping the gate getting a disguise and doing all sorts of mischief and mayhem.
“So get All-state, you could save money and be better protected from mayhem, like me!” ha ha h:)
one of my favorite times in these situations involved me getting over the wall, to the command post hallway. gunned at some of them as they ran up the alley, some chased me, managed to get the best of them. circled around, hacked their alley turret, then back to the rear entrance of the res spawn. now because they were all charging up the alley - they never even look back, so just started gunning them from behind as they came out of their spawn. last thing they could say was ‘hey, spawn camping, no fair’ lol
iirc, we got the charge planted, and got the bot down to the corner near their spawn. not quite a full victory, but felt good nonetheless.

[li]Ready up! Tap tap tap A so you are part of the first deployment. Don’t watch the entire cinematic. You are not at the movies, son. This is war. Don’t get caught waiting as some of your team deploys. This is a huge rookie mistake and can be disastrous against a good defensive team.

[li]Make sure you have an objective class ready before you deploy if possible, or quickly switch at command post. Know the Obj Wheel so you can change to a class in a half second.

Here is my only problem with your tactics. During the cut scenes I am busy setting up my class/weapons but when everyone readies up asap I then have to divert to the spawn command post, if people would let others switch to the necessary class before hand then the initial push would be a whole hell of a lot smoother.
I know, but that’s not reality. Reality is you get burned if you don’t go when the whistle blows. Cuz that’s when the race starts. It only takes one to ready up. So you have to approach it as if, you need to Tappy Tap Tap A. You have to. Its like a meta game. Like in Gears of War knowing the turns you need to make on canals to be the first to the sniper. If you aren’t on the ball, you get left in the cold. Tappy Tap Tap A. Don’t get caught watching the paint dry.
It takes more than 1 person to ready up to bypass the cut scene. Im just trying to point out that if people let even half of the cut scene play then people like me would be better equipped to support/complete the initial push/objective.
Remember, there’s an old saying in video games. Cut scenes are the parts most hit Y and skip. I think you want to tap A, then B and get used to doing it fast (meta game) and make your switch to the OBJ fast. I want to say you have 3 seconds to do it and still have enough time to deploy on time. You MUST deploy on time and on point in Brink. That’s why, as a good rule of thumb: Tappy Tap-tap A!
As far as the two areas that the TC mentioned in the new maps, what he failed to say…or probably didn’t elude to because he didn’t think of it, is the spots he mentioned that are “camp friendly” also have no tactical strength at all. The idea behind spawn camping is to kill the other side before or as they come out of their spawn with little to no danger to yourself. In the spot the TC mentions on Founder’s Tower and the Labs, you’re a sitting freakin’ duck. Sure, you might get a couple kills, but once the enemy key in on your position, they’ll be on you faster then you’ll be able to retreat, which will lead you laying on your back listening to the Brink gingle waiting to respawn because no Medic is gonna be dumb enough to come revive you where you’re at.
And if you get camped on the curved ramps of the Lab as Resistance, you DESERVE to get killed ruthlessly. There’s a simple solution to when Security is camping the ramps. GO BELOW THEM. There’s a door that leads to the ground floor of the labs. If they’re so busy beating you back on the ramp, go below them, charge up the stairs on their flank and punish them. Then plant the charge, set up defenses and let them waste the next 38 seconds trying to figure out how to smoke you out and clear the charge.
I summary, these are rudimentary camp positions that any FPS player worth their salt would know how to counter. It’s not like CCity where the advantage is near insurmountable. A smart (no pun intended) group on players, or even one player…can overcome the camp locations the TC mentioned, because there’s more then one strategy to employ to counter it.
