E3 2010 Coverage Round-up - Day 2: Brink Footage and More

I think there is a darn good reason to allow everything to be completely unlocked at some point on a single character. I don’t want to create a ton of characters just to find out what the abilities I didn’t unlock do.
you can sell back abilities, so if you really wanted to find out what they all did using only one character, you could.

Having the amount of customization that Brink offers, and then allowing players to experience all of it with just 1 character, seems a bit pointless. It would be like being able to max out all 3 skill trees on a character in WoW, and then just picking and choosing whichever one you want to use and being able to change classes.

  • You can create up to 16 characters
  • 3 body types to choose from
  • can’t unlock everything with one guy
  • countless aesthetic and weapon customization
  • unlockable abilities

They obviously are encouraging creating more than 1 guy. I know you just want the “cut and dry, no holds barred, FPS experience,” but Brink doesn’t seem to be headed in that direction. They are offering much, much more to a wider range of players.

Reading the thread was actually a genuine suggestion. You clearly didn’t. I repeatedly stated that we’re discussing the end-game here. The moment where you’ve unlocked everything, how much of the incentives will be left to keep working yourself?

In the case of XP unlocks, if you can’t unlock everything on one character eventually then you have to create a new character to play differently (I put two and two together of course).

Which is not what we discussed, but you would’ve known that if you’d read the thread.

So it only makes perfect sense to allow everything to be unlocked, eventually, on a single character.

Sure, but by then the costs of reconfiguring your character is gone. Which is what we discussed, but you would’ve known that if you’d read the thread.

If your concerned about it somehow diminishing this is on the “variety/depth” junk your always using as a reason for something

Yeah, me and my stupid depth and variation, why would anyone ever want that in a game?

…then shouldn’t the fact that you can only use 5 abilities in game anyways be enough since anything is achievable through multiple character creation?

No it’s not enough because people can freely reconfigure all their unlocks.

Plus you still have to prioritize what things you unlock first anyways. Your progressive decisions in this manner is where the “consequence” comes into play.

True, so until the end-game is met, things are fine. But we’re talking about what happens when everything is unlocked, but then again, you would’ve known that if you actually red the thread.

I think there is a darn good reason to allow everything to be completely unlocked at some point on a single character. I don’t want to create a ton of characters just to find out what the abilities I didn’t unlock do.

Sure, nothing wrong with that. I also have no problems with unlocking everything on other characters once you’ve unlocked them on one. All I want is an appropriate cost to reconfiguring your abillity slots. But you would’ve known that if you’d actually read the thread.

That does not add anything but frustration for me because I would rather have a single character and not need to play tons of hours on multiple ones. Now does that seem like it is in any way removing something from the game? I thought not.

You wouldn’t need to feel frustrated if you’d actually read the thread. You just come butting in on a discussion arguing against things that were never even mentioned in the discussion.

Good. If I ever want to play a true mmo rpg, I will do that instead.

I guess regarding you being corrected as unnecessary BS truly reveals your interest in actually discussing this topic.

Please keep it civil, guys.
