Dynamic redflags / blueflags (grabable objs)?

(hummer) #1

Okay, I’ve been out of touch for a while, but I’m getting back into the swing of things.

Anyway, I’ve been doing some scripting on this Indiana jones thing… one problem has just come up.

The original design calls for a staff (redflag) that is taken via a scripted truck to a temple. The staff is used to open up a new path… however, I had intended for the staff to “ride” in the truck. Problem is, the staff only likes to spawn in one place. So, the truck keeps moving, but if the staff is taken, it spawns at it’s original spawn point.

Has anyone had any luck with getting a grabable objective to move with a mover? If so, how?

The alternative would be, to have the staff seperate from the truck, and the allies would have to escort the truck, as well as have someone take the staff to the temple… that’d be okay, just makes the allied fight that much harder…

Durrr… I r teh smarat.

attachtotag truck tag_obj1 fixed all. I was using attachtotag truck tag_wback on accident…

glad to see you back working on this map…Ive been watching the progress…

Heh… yeah… back it at

What about the place you take the redflag or blueflag to (trigger_flagonly_multiple)… those don’t seem to work with attachtotags… anyone had luck with those?

Maybe you need an ‘origin’ brush grouped with the trigger for the attachtotag to work. I needed this to get some cargo to move with a truck (my cargo was made of brushwork)

OMG… I totally forgot that… I wonder if that will work. I’ll give it a shot and report back.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious… that exactly what I needed… it works now, thanks

So, you can have dyamic flags, and dynamic cap points… that would make for some cool maps!

can someone tell me what just happened?

hummer gave every one a really cool idea (another obvious statement by me)

I’m going to guess about his map… (sorry if I get it wrong hummer)

  1. allies have to capture the staff of ra and get it to the truck

  2. allies have to escort the truck to the map room

  3. axis can damage truck
(that’s how most of us would do an objective, but he’s added another step…)

  4. axis can steal the staff of ra off the truck (makes for some good game play)

  5. allies kill axis player holding staff - it ‘spawns’ at the truck (returned object)

So, he’s allowing both the capture point and return point of an object move with a vehicle.

It would be like allowing the axis to steal the gold off the truck in goldrush, once the truck was moving

nice!

You’re pretty close… goes like this:

  1. Truck starts with Staff of Ra attached.
  2. Allies escort truck and staff to map room.
  3. Allies can grab staff off truck at any time to make a run for the map room.
  4. Staff will always spawn back at truck.
  5. Truck stops in front of map room.
  6. Once map room is opened, a path to the idol is available.
  7. Idol must be taken to truck before truck can move again.
  8. Axis can damage truck at any point…
  9. Truck is then escorted to sub base where ark must be loaded… which ends the game.

Note, that allies can take the staff off the truck, make a run, return idol to truck, all before truck reaches the map room for its stop. Although the truck still has to pass the map room entrance.

All of this works right now. Although, there are tons of possibilites since the flag and cap points are totally dynamic. I was telling iffy you could do a map where a truck drove around the perimiter of a base… and there were multple cap points in the base… depending on where you take the truck, you could position it closer to the cap points.

Or, you could do the opposite… have the defense move the cap point (the truck, or whatever) and the offense would have to find the truck… make for some truly dynamic game play.

Hell, you could even do something cool like suspend the flag from a swinging rope that someone has to grab… possibilities are limitless…
