Dying fast, killing slow

Sure you most likely know this already…

You really just need to be aiming for them headshots and tracking…
The TTK (Time To Kill) is actually quite high compared to many other games out their but still if you get headshots you can drop someone in around a second or less. Weapons at range are quite weak, leg shots do less damage and some weapons are much stronger then others.

Good luck.

its hard for new people to catch up. Most of us play the game for over a year now. Just play more often and you will get into it. Like Pixel said always go for the head!

yea I understand… It is possible to catch up eventually dude. I am actually new in DB standards! lol

I was playing with in-game sens 11 until the latest patch but I’ve had to drop it to 6 due to all the juddering etc. going on meaning I can track again now but need a 1km wide mousemat to turn, or judicious use of the DPI switch. Even the 11 is way lower than I would have in say ET:QW, its been hard to adjust to and still doesn’t ‘click’.

I tend to use 90-95 fov, 8-12sens @ 800dpi.

90 fov, 6sens @ 400dpi
edit: initially dpi and sens was much higher, but bought a new mouse to replace the g9x, and it feels better playing at lower sens with this mouse.

It might be interesting for you guys to know that the Unreal Engine 3 calculates its FoV (which will of course impact the “feel” of your sensitivity) in a completely different manner to id tech engines (upon which the 3 games listed above were developed). With the latest update, we actually changed the system to bring it more in line with the id tech status quo. Any transition over should feel slightly more natural for players now.

As you’ve mentioned above, you can’t do a 1:1 transfer at the moment, but it should be possible to make the transition and dial into your preference pretty relatively quickly, you just can’t expect to be nailing headshots at 200m right out of the gate.

On sensitivity specifically, if you could make the lobby menu the same as the in game menu (i:e be able to set sensitivity to a decimal place) that would be a help to some degree. I’m currently using 0.8 sens @ 7900 dpi on a mouse that by default runs @ 8200 dpi, but the game doesn’t give me the flexibility to adjust sufficiently on its own.

Added to that, and possibly a part of what the OP is struggling with, either the lag comp is screwed or there are still problems with animations. I was playing yesterday on a server with 3 or 4 HPB’s and the amount of times I was getting killed when I was behind cover almost made me rage quit. I’ve watched the videos back and at the moment I can’t tell if i was dead before I dodged behind the wall and the game let me feel like I was still playing, or if I still had health behind the wall and suddenly lost it due to lag comp. When I know more i’ll post it on a separate thread, but it does feel like there is a difference between what you see in a firefight, and the reality of what is happening.
