Dutch version of Dirty Bomb?

(Mr.Dubstab) #1

I’ve noticed that the Dutch player community has been growing overall. I’m happy to see this.

Now, I’ve also noticed that there are different languages for Dirty Bomb. Current languages are English, German, Russian, Protuguese and French… And as the title revealed… I wouldn’t mind to add a Dutch version to this.

With that, I mean I wouldn’t mind to participate into making a Dutch version. I’ll be glad to help.

Let me know your thoughts! =>

I like that idea, if you need translators . I’m oke if i have to help

you should get in touch with the Warchest/Splash Damage team, they had a spreadsheet on Google Drive for localization

Isn’t it like 100% of Dutch speak english perfectly?

(Mr.Dubstab) #5

@laudatoryLunch Okay… Maybe we do know English well, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make a Dutch User Interface, right? I mean… I prefer to have something in my own language, instead forcing myself to translate everything very fast in my head. I do feel like I’m being reasonable here…

(Mr.Dubstab) #6

Bump. I would like to have a moderator look at this, as I am still highly interested in helping out on a Dutch version.

(Mr.Dubstab) #7

@Ardez , would you mind to look at this for a second?

@MissMurder

the other languages were done through a collaboration between Warchest/SD and the community, I’d suggest inquiring on their forum

(Ardez1) #10

afaik they were working on Portuguese(Brazil). No update on that for several months that I know of. May already be finished, but I wouldn’t be in the know on that one.

I was going to link earlier discussion but sorry it’s in my NDA area, opening a new inquiry would be best

Dutch people in general can understand English pretty well and they are used to english language games. Games in Dutch are the exception.

I don’t think it’s worth the effort to translate the game into Dutch. Personally, I would still play the English version.

(Yes, I’m Dutch.)

(Edzer) #13

Even if the game would be available in Dutch I would still use the English version, I usually can’t stand the translations. “Speel nu!!11!!”

(Mr.Dubstab) #14

This is why you shouldn’t use Google Translate to translate everything.

I do understand if people would like to keep the English version. However, I hope you understand my point of view here: What’s wrong with having many languages available?

(Edzer) #15

Think there wouldn’t be any problems as long as it’s fully community supported, I personally wouldn’t want SD to waste any resources on this.

(Ghosthree3) #16

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with offering extra languages. But at the same time there’s nothing wrong with not doing it either, they only hurt themselves by hurting their market reach.

(Edzer) #17

That’s not really true in this case, Dutch people already get to start studying English in primary school. This is why the level of English in the Netherlands is pretty high compared to other non-English European countries.

Adding the Dutch language would only be a bit of convenience for a small part of the Dutch community. This is why I (as a Dutch person) would only support this if it would be done by the community and not by splash damage itself (since splash damage doesn’t have a lot of resources to work with in the first place.)

(Ghosthree3) #18

I was speaking in general, more about languages that may have a user base that doesn’t really speak english.

Then you’re correct, you didn’t specifically mention it though which is why I thought otherwise.

English is a gaming language. Even that i am russian, i prefer my games in english, even if there is russian translation available. It feels odd to me to play them in any other language. Old habits…
