Duplex Towers. New custom map for ET.

(Loffy) #1

Hallo!
Here is a new custom map for ET, called Duplex Towers!
The map is about two defended structures (towers).

The Axis are attacking and their main objective is to dynamite these two towers. Axis respawn-time: 20 seconds.
The Allied Forces are defending. Allied respawn-time: 30 seconds.

This map is medium-sized and optimal for 6-12 players on each team.

Total match-time: 20 minutes.

The map has a very simple design. The two towers are situated on top of a mountain.
The Axis (It is about time they get to attack!) are spawning at the bottom of the slopes.
Note!: The Axis may spawn at two different locations, at equal distance to the towers.
Go to Limbo menu to switch spawn-location.
The Allies are spawning at the top of the mountain, close to the towers.
They have two spawning locations, at equal distance to the towers, just like the Axis.

More images from Duplex Towers:

Landmines, mortar and air-strikes are enabled.
However, air-strikes are disabled over the two towers.
Air-strikes are also disabled over both the Axis and Allied spawn-locations.

Landmines cannot be places on rocky terrain.

Nice looking terrain - will check the map out when I get home tonight.

Thanks for your comments. Appreciate it. ChiemseeMan, thanks for mirror and previous discussions about maps and mapping while I was working on this map (DT).
I should mention that the terrain is based on the material that Sock release some time ago (his terrain tutorials).
A summer landscape would be nothing wihtout bird songs. There are many bird wav files in this map. What is the latin name for this bird, for example? Listen and guess:

Lastly, here is the Read Me for those that want all the details:

Well, I liked it for the most part, my only real problems were a few missing textures. Also, after the towers are destroyed the white smoke is almost invisible in front of the very white sky, maybe put a darker blue sky in, and perhaps make the smoke less of a whirlwind and give it more of a rising dispersing effect. I also wasn’t crazy about how much of an arena it seemed like. Four walls is a bit unatural, maybe bushes or inpassible barbed wire with roads leading in and out. If you put some distant mountains or somthing in the sky texture, that’d help it out imho. I like the map as a whole, although with all the different random constructibles and passages/paths to the towers, it seems a bit cluttered.

I know your probably not gonna worry about most of this stuff, but I figure a little criticism can’t hurt…the terrain and overall concept is nice thogh

Mappers always listen to good feedback such as this.
I have noted your ideas (they all make perfect sense).
I’m working on a (mindblowing loffy-) frag movie at the moment.
Thx!

I like the catastrophical clutter :drink: and the books, every time anyone says "never played this before/first time on map/what do I do/… you just answer “read a book” muhaha…
I played it last night on 12v12 or something, at the M8D server and its great fun never knowing where the enemy may attack from, makes it more random and less of a camping map as allies can’t take up fixed positions but must move around all the time.

The only note I have is that it seems a bit too hard for axis, yes they will often blow the first tower if allies are inexperienced and don’t get what to do right away, but then the game often seems to stall with allies being able to almost go down and camp axis spawns. Unsure what can be done about this really, but I get a feeling that with experienced players this will be real hard for axis. Maybe something to think about ?

PS: Saw your mail only today, sorry I didn’t see it earlier, but my old PC crasched due to overheating and it’s only today that I’m finally back online with all harddrives and email and stuff.
