Dual Objective Maps

I would love to see dual objective maps introduced to Dirty Bomb. For those who don’t know these type of maps: both sides have an objective to defend and one to attack. The winner is the one who successfully attacks their opponent’s objective.

RTCW had a lot of these style of maps, including two that came with the game–mp_depot, mp_destruction. W:ET’s campaign mode was more popular than stopwatch or objective mode so not a lot them were made for that game. But there were a few popular ones-- byzantine and baserace come to mind.

The best part is they do not have to be large maps or require more than one spawn point. A community made map mp_bridge for RTCW is a good example of that

Hell even Splash Damage cut their teeth working for ID with a dual objective map MP_marketgarden (my all time favorite map). Now that is a map I think would work well in Dirty Bomb. I would love to see a remake of that map but placed in London obviously.

When I started reading your post I immediately thought of Marketgarden! I never played RtCW:MP, only W:ET but I really loved that map. I would also agree that it would fit nicely into Dirtybomb. Nice idea!

Absolutely agree, hell even simple capture the flag would work great in this game.

Dome has a somewhat of a dual objective stage where you can choose to blow up either one of the containers to gain access to next stage.

That is not what is meant by “dual objective”. The concept is that each team has an objective to accomplish. Whether that is blowing something up like in RTCW’s Marketgarden or stealing something like in capture-the-flag or baserace maps doesnt matter at first.
In your example there is only one ‘attacking’ team and that can choose which of those two objs to accomplish, but the other team is still only defending.

We’ve asked about these sort of maps before, but were told that they’d rather implement them as a new gamemode, which isn’t an option at the moment because they want to use their resources getting the current modes into a good place first.

I would like to see CTF with datacores, each team need to stole datacores to the container. If I remember, there was 1 map with blue and red helipad.

with the fixed (and shifting) spawns, and symmetrical spawn systems, plus the chokey objectives map always play out the same way.

A simple capture the flag mode would go a long way to giving a fresh feel for the game. Are you going to use aura to bunker up at the flag, and protect it from the enemy. Or will you place a sneaky hp station on your teammate’s escape route, to run interference? ATM. there are little such considerations. Its always the same areas that are being contested, the same spots that an hp station is viable, regardless of the state of the map.

Add some secondaries to blow up/repair to make it easier to attack/defend, few ammo crates to give ammo givers relevance and you got a whole new game!
