Dt_Jeep

(Detoeni) #1

Good day folks,

got a new model for you.
A WW2 US Army “Willy’s” Jeep which can be set as a “misc_model” or “misc_gamemodel”.

The Jeep is made from a number of component models so you can change the apperance to suit your needs. All components share the same origin.

From the read_me:

dt_jeep_body.md3 =body
dt_jeep_scr_dw.md3 =screen down
dt_jeep_scr_up.md3 =screen up
dt_jeep_top.md3 =roof
dt_jeep_spare.md3 =spare wheel

DO NOT EDIT THE SHADER OR TEXTURES WITHOUT CHANGING THE MODELS TEXTURE PATHS!!!!

You may use this file providing it's not for profit.

You can find two more screen shots and download from here:

Very nice. Are all of the skin textures large sized tga or are they smaller jpegs?

Good job on this! You surround this in a little patch of foliage for some nice eye candy. :wink:

Very nice!

So cool!
Im never gonna be a real mapper, until I manage to produce stuff like that in Gmax (or similar software). (Have both gmax and 3dsMax 3.0 - but never the time to learn… playing ET and mapping in radiant “steals” all my time.)
Thanks for the model. Will test it this weekend. However, I need it to be a “snow-version”. I guess I will have to edit the textures.
But how? (I’ll give it a try.) I’m sure I’ll figure it out though.

Thanks folks.

@Ifurita, untill someone works out how to add an alpha layer to a jpg, you’ll have to make do with the larger tga :wink: .

Reason why I asked was we were able to reduce the file size for your Tiger I and PW 222 skins (except for the files that needed alpha channels) considerably to keep the pk3 size as small as possible.

No worries,

I thought that would be what you wanted to do it for.

ET comes with very few assets as it is, player should expect that custom maps will need to come with new new game content and accept the resulting larger file (I know this is like asking a lepord to change its spots). Any one playing ET should not be using a 56k modem, so a few minuets to download a 20MB-ish pk3 should not really be a big deal.

From an artistic stand point, using an alpha channel allows me to do effects that would other wise need a large number verts, which as we know has an effect on over-all game speed, which in my book, is the greater evil.

On a side note, I saw the tiger in one of your maps, could not help thinking you had made it a littel too small. A tiger is one monster lump of metal, try standing next to one and you’ll see what I mean (also thought it looked damn ugly, but that would be my fault, a fault that going to get fixed).

I thought I used the same modelscale as you had in your prefab.

My apologies, I was not happy about the way it looked, it must have clouded me jugment.

Once again, impressive work DeToeni !!!
V57 !

And thanks for this :

It’s just so true.
Mappers are all trying to use the textures and the models the best they can. But it comes to the point that even a standard player can recognize in a glance the ET textures and ET models.
So, once again, thank you for you great models.
