I just had a run about in the map and was really, really impressed. It looks and sounds great, has interesting things to do and seems to be built specifically for gameplay (hard to tell without playing a match).

Some things I didn’t like though,

-Realism, it goes straight out the window when you have axis and allies both with bases set up right next to each other, and feels like you’re in a purpose-built arena rather than a real location. Kinda like UT2003.

-The whole map is a mirror image of itself. I guess this could make fights fair, but also pretty boring IMO. Also it makes it look like the map was rushed when only half was done then just copied and mirrored. There’s already a mode in ET for fair matches, called ‘Stopwatch’…but playing stopwatch on this would be no different to campaign or objective.

-A few bits look too ‘inspired’ from other places. I noticed lots of similarities to Carnage within seconds, the sound effects and bombing and the look in places. Also the chairs, the ones that move when you run into them, look and sound identical to the ones in Password2. There were more things I noticed that I forgot about. Also the RTCW textures are illegal and have to be replaced.

-I couldn’t complete the objective, couldn’t work out where to go. Kept ending up back at the same spot. I know my sense of direction sucks beyond belief, and maybe if I played an actual game I could just follow everyone else, but I did get frustrated and felt like a couped up chicken running around in circles, and so switched it off.

the chairs are a prop_chair entity, there are only two choices. you can’t create them yourself.

okay. here’s the deal on me using (or you may call it stealing) textures from rtcw… until activision/id software/splash damage/whoever gets a lawyer on my ass(or at least sends a threatening email) for “stealing” (about 15) textures to use in rtcw’s sister game, I will keep on using them. (just for the record I probably won’t use any of them again, because it seems like they are just a huge nerve in the ET mapping community waiting to be hit.)
