Downloading ADD Ons & Patches?

(orbeavhawk) #1

I am seriously considering buying BRINK but read about it being patched for PC etc. but cannot find any patches etc. at their home site - NO Support Dept.??? Also - I see they offer [gave away] a nice sounding DLC Pack but now it appears you can only download it via STEAM…but I do not want to got the steam route for this or any other game. I want to purchase the CDROM/DVD. I don’t imagine you can purchase the DLC from Steam IF you own your own game??? A shame Bethesda is not selling the DLC.

Please advise, TKS, michael:confused:

This game requires steam. It doesn’t matter if you buy the DVD, you still need steam to install and play it off the DVD. All patches are delivered over steam. You can buy the DLC from steam even if you buy a DVD of the game.

If you can help it, it’s probably a good idea to avoid steam. Alas by the time I developed a distaste for it I had a sizable investment of games. Most I can do is just stop buying on it. Sometimes, I think I ought to give more consideration to the things I do.

Anyway, Cynix is correct. The game requires steam.

Steam rocks… love it…

Brink - on the other hand, not so much,

dont bother buying the game, its dead… and the SP is, well… lacking in so many ways… its not worth your money…

What SP?! Its MP with bots! Selling that as SP is utter BS

It’s about as SP as ET:QW was. Don’t remember them selling that as SP =/ I blame whoever handled the press coughpublisherscough

The reason I am/was interested in BRINK is because I enjoyed “BoarderLands” shooter\assignments\PAY\upgrade weapons and character…that type of setup I found FUN and rewarding…kept me coming back for more…reading about BRINK and seeing it’s graphics - I was thinking I might enjoy it to…will be playing SP [I’m and OLD fart and can’t deal with the FLACK of MP]

Any other suggestions?

Just keep in mind that SP is MP with bots filling in for humans.

TKS michael[/QUOTE]I’d try out Brink and see if YOU like it. That’s the key, because I know lots of folks who love Brink. You can play by yourself, but its more fun with a couple friends. Give it a whorl.

In other words; spend your money and hope you didn’t waiste it in the end?

I also know lots of folks who hate Brink, so that’s no argument. If it was, mine would win.

The brink PC community is infintessimaly tiny.
The single player is not a complete game. It is MP with bots taking the place of real people.

So if you’re happy with playing MP games against bots or if you know people that you’ll be able to play against then give it a try.

If you don’t like bots and you don’t want to struggle finding MP games then you may want to be wary (or try out a console version instead. apparently their community is bigger).

This game is not like what you describe in Borderlands. The RPG element is a shell. Singleplayer is not meant to be “enjoyed” but merely prepare you for multiplayer mayhem. The real experience is hardcore multiplayer FPS with emphasis on human teamwork (and it is both fun and frustrating.)

But…if you find a good clan, you could have many fun hours with this game. If you want to see what it is really about, an indicator can be found with “Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory” (free, but dated, links can be found at this site) and “Enemy Territory: Quake Wars” (slightly dated, but FUN!!!). Brink is different enough, but it’s still the same basic gameplay.

Oh, and you can lots of modify lots of weapons and your character. Lots of! And best of all, you get all these things early on (weapons and mods), so you do not have to grind for them. But you do have to grind for your abilities (unfortunately). But it is NOT an RPG!
