Download maps from server?

(~kev~) #1

As the community starts to create original content, will players be able to download maps directly from the server?

In other games, there seems to be 2 mindsets, officially approved maps that are sent out through updates (team fortress 2 and left 4 dead), and server side hosted maps (counter-strike).

What kind of map distribution system did SplashDamage have in mind?

I’m assuming they will take the route of Wolf:ET and ET:QT and allow direct download from servers.

(madness) #3

they never even announced they will release mod tools…

I think that should be a given, if you want the community to thrive, players need a way to create their own content.

Do you think counter-strike would be where it is today if fans could not create their own content?

It would be cool if SD make it like unreal.

=> Programm a Webinterface to controll the Gameserver
=> Use a Fileserver to host the maps in .zip format so that everybody could download the maps on the fly.

=> And build a funktion - With that function the servers could download the maps in the same way!
( Like the linux way, type in the mapname and push install => Done, the map is installed on the server. ) :stroggbanana:

-> In the background he download the map, decompress the map, copy the files and insert that in the
level selection of the server.
