Downed players viewpoint should snap to Medics

(xAvenger) #1

I am writing to point out problems with medic mercs.

The only problem I perceive is that when a player is downed, the perspective should change to the nearest medic. This game has elements of previous titles, e.g. RTCW, ET, and ET QW. In at least two of those games, the player that was downed, as in Dirty Bomb, would be given the choice to either 1) Tap out and respawn, or, 2) wait for a medic. While waiting, if the option to wait for a medic were chosen, the perspective of the downed player would snap to and follow the closest medic, within a certain (very long) range. The downed player could then choose to wait for the medic, or, if the medic was killed or not responding, could ‘tap out,’ and resume game play from the spawn point.

I am requesting feedback as to whether or not this ‘feature’ might be implemented. The current state (of not following available medics) is a major difference between the previous games, and I understand there may be design or balance choice that dictates this feature. However, this would be an easy feature to implement, and it would influence game play in what I believe to be a beneficial matter.

Please advise.

*choices (third line of the second paragraph).

Not to beat a dead horse, but it seemed to me to be a ‘Glamdring’ issue.

http://www.swordforum.com/forums/showthread.php?11475-Why-Glamdring-doesn-t-glow-in-the-movies

And, most significant (but only to the argument that something was missed):

http://www.egokick.com/article/1261837/incredible-movie-mistakes-peter-jackson-made-in-the-lord-of-the-rings

“Glamdring’s glow gone missing
Frodo and Gandalf both have swords forged by elves that will glow blue when Orcs are nearby. In the Mines of Moria, Frodo’s sword, Sting, glows to alert the Fellowship that Orcs are coming. Gandalf’s, called Glamdring or the Foe-Hammer, however, does not. Epic fail, Peter Jackson!”

Id.

You know you can edit posts right? I guess you couldn’t find the little gear icon, it’s somewhere in the top right corner of the OP.

Anyways, I think that this would be a cool feature, but a third option, to just wait, and not to lock on to a medic. The whole point of being able to swivel views around your character is so you can see if an enemy is about to finish you off, so you can quickly tap out and deny them XP. If you were forcefully locked on to a medic, you might not see someone run up and try to gib you. As Nader especially, this would make her Martyrdom much harder to use.

EDIT: Also the title of the thread is misleading, there isn’t a bug, this is a suggestion. I will assume you are new to forums in general. Bugs are things which happen, and aren’t meant to, e.g. Proxy can Teleport in side enemies. This is a bug (doesn’t actually happen.)

Hello:

extravagentBypass, I think you have it wrong, no offense. The point was that in the previous games the view switched to the medic. When you are a downed player, you can’t kill a nearby player trying to finish you. However, the medic nearby could be snapped to for the reason I stated above. Of course another enemy player could finish you, but the point is that if a medic is near they might be able to revive, if not, you respawn. I have punched out only to find a medic was about to revive me. It worked in RTCW and ET (I played Medic FT) and I think it would work here.

Let me know if there is a flaw to my thinking.

BTW I tried the gear icon and cannot move the post. To where would I move it? I am relatively new to these forums, but was Polyolbion at the UT99 forums as an Alpha tester in 1999, due to my knowledge of recursive logic. But it has been a while since. I apologize for my ignorance.

Ok, I edited the subject; it was not necessarily misleading, but I clarified the subject. Sorry if some took it as misleading. this post has received almost 20 (EDIT: now 43) views. Noby save you commented.

Oh and BTW, I was suggesting that the snap would occur like it did in RTCW and ET. This is not any of those games, and I realize that. However, this game is destined to be a great game. Perfect that flaw.

Also . . . anyone viewing this, this post now has 44 views. If you support the ideas referenced above, e.g snap to medic, please post your support. I can and will be defeated by apathy, and common opinion may influence the devs., but if you viewed the post and did not comment, you are a coward.

Uhm way to go with your coward speech.

Anyways I’m against this.
Having a freecam when you are down is way more useful.
[] First it allowes you to see from where you got shoot and it allowes you to take a look at your surrounding and judging the situation this is valuable information for your whole team.
[
] Furthermore atleast two Mercs need this to use skills effective (Phoenix, Nader). As a Nader player I reliay heavely on rotating the cam in a way to see incoming enemies as best as possible to time marthyrdom better.

And last you get medics marked if you are down. So it is easy to look around and check if any medics are close by. Which should give you more then enough information wheter to respawn right away or wait a second more.
So honestly a medic snap cam is not needed imo.

I respect your view. However, you respond playing one merc. Nader. I play her too, and am somewhat bewildered where you base any arguments towards that merc in particular.

With RTCW and ET you could also stretch the view to look around. Also, where medics are not around, you have free look. You can still martyrdom where no med is available. 90 percent of the time I see Nader running in. She dies and enemies are not around her. She goes boom and nobody cares.

Finally, a good team has medics able to rez. They will do their job. I was a medic in RTCW for Avatar, and I vouch that the team that rezs will be the team that wins. Who can say that the team that does not have a skilled healer wins? We need the snap, like RTCW and ET.

I liked this feature in wolf. I’d welcome it back.

id like a toggle-cycle during death:

rmb - snap to medic -> snap to kill cam -> snap to body

(CCP115) #14

You might wanna try merging all your posts, multiple posts right after each other look a little bit weird.

I can see what you are saying with this, but again, Phoenix and Nader both need free look.
Also when you, the camera interestingly enough, swivels around your death spot, not your dead body. I once had someone’s dead body slide down a stair case, for a bout 6-7metres.
His camera would have been quite far away from his corpse.

Again, I know this idea is a good one, it sounds like it would be cool, but there are some merc specific reasons as to why it would have to be toggle able.

hmm cycling through different view options. I would fully support that, if there is a option in the settings that sets the starting point for the cycle (i.e. start with medic snap or start with bodysnap).

Good idea Szakalot
