sounds like your experiencing the ‘hall of mirrors’ effect… ( hom )
basicly, you looking out into the void from inside your map. it sounds like
you have it all sealed off, since your able to get into it, but its not textured
proper. check your map and from where you spawn ( check in the editor )
and see if there’s any brushes with the ‘caulk’ image on them. any caulked
brush that seperates the inside of the map from the outside void, that you
can SEE, from the inside will cause the hom effect.

for instance, if i were standing in this room and as long as i was not facing
the caulked wall, it would appear ok, but as soon as i turned and started to
see the caulked wall, i would experience the hom effect… the wall needs to
be textured to seal off my view of the void behind it. the caulk is transparent.

ok , but mines different , mine is starting with one floor , 3 walls and one place without a wall where you can walk out , and once i see out the empty space the trees are in double and stuff, i dont know why but i think it is because i didnt know ow to make a roof and i just made a wall that expended and was lifted up or soemthing a rather
how do i make a door that can open? s o i dont nneed empty walls , or better a door space with a door already open , by the way , tell me how to solve the double problem and how to make a roof too.

maybe a *.bsp file might help?.. still it is a hom effect for me.

Reading between the lines, it sounds like you’ve followed one of those terrible first map tutorials that tells you to make a box and hollow it to get your first room without actually explaining why things are done. Anyone who has ever written one of these deserves a slap.

Assuming you’ve learnt about it, forget about the Hollow command - it’s pretty much worthless for anything other than quick test maps.

When you are building, think of the blocks you make (brushes) like building bricks or Lego. You can lay them down as you see fit, which makes it easy to make walls with doorways etc. (you’d just make a wall out of two blocks making the sides the door and one across the top).

There is another really important thing that I don’t think you’ve found out yet. You need to seal your map’s insides from the void. Your map has to be a completely enclosed space surrounded by brushes. Imagine filling up your map with water - if there is anywhere where that water could get out, it needs to be sealed up. (You will actually see a LEAK error message in the map compile if you have a hole) Even the sky is just made from a brush - it just gets a special shader on it that tells the game to draw the sky there.

A map is pretty much a collection of rooms and passageways, all joined up together with no gaps. Even terrain areas are just really big rooms. Think in those kind of terms and you should do OK.

There isnt any leak holes in my map! why is stuff appearing in double ! tell me why!

Is it possible to post a screenshot, this would be really helpful, from the sounds of it though, it could be that you havent textured one of the brushes that are at the edge of the map like rayban has said.

(Shallow) #8

Yeah, we need screenshots. But of Radiant not in-game - we know what HOM looks like!

Also: Calm down a notch there chief. People have tried to help you and suggested the likely causes. Getting hysterical without giving people any more info to go on doesn’t help.

(scott2e4c) #9

THX , NOW HOW DO I MAKE TERRAINS , LOL WE ARE ONLINE SAME TIME.
AND PLZ JUST TELL ME HOW , I DONT WANT ANY LINK TO A VIDEO OR TUTORIAL .

(==Troy==) #10

I can copy a part of tutorial… but you better find it yourself. I gave a link, if you look at it you will find a link to how to make a terrain.

If I satrt explaining I will write pretty much the same what is written there, so will it worth it? no.

(scott2e4c) #11

yes its worth it just tel me! what button to press or sometihng anything!

(kamikazee) #12

From the other thread you started:

So, what is your problem with the tutorials posted here? I’d say the problem is that you simply don’t want to read them.

If that is correct, I’m afraid I or someone else will not be able to help you.

(scott2e4c) #13

kamikazee is that you who plays on gibgames/ its me AD stupid! is that really you? and by the way , i never got that link so i am gona read it now.

(.Chris.) #14

If you cant be bothered to read tutorials and expect that there is an easy option for everything then mapping is not for you.

It will take a while before you can do some of the stuff you mentioned in your other thread without getting someone to do it for you which wont be happening any time soon.

(scott2e4c) #15

i never said i dont bother to read!
