Double Trouble Issues with Brink...

(Sauragnmon) #1

Alright… I’ve got Two different types of problems with Brink that seem to crop up on their own. I’ve set it up to record game logs and then set aside the files regarding the two issues when they occur.

Let’s start with my DxDiag File

First would be the occasional dump right to the desktop, during gameplay. No warning, no visible connection between situations, it just dumps me on the desktop with nothing to show. Log is here

Second is the lovely hangup of the system, most regularly during costume modification, where it just freezes. Ironically, the music continues to play without a problem, but the video locks up completely - even the mouse does not show. I alt-tab and I get the taskbar, and it’ll show the mouse is still inputting when it comes into that point, but nothing else. I often have to C-A-D and kill it from Taskman. Takes a bit to shut down and the music goes at that point. Log of that event here

These are the two most frequent. I have two other problems - one, for some reason on the intro videos for loading Brink, and the first movies just after selecting faction, the sound likes to clip on itself. I tried S_useocclusion 0 and it worked, but for some reason it came back (possibly crash, have not looked just yet). The other issue is that sometimes, the game hangs in the middle of a mission, much similar to the lockup during costume changes.

Please, I would love to play this beautiful, stunning, innovative and awesome game (I bought a new GPU just for it) but it’s not working very well for me.

Aaaand… a little later on, I played a bit more Brink, and it hung up on me Just after I’d finished a mission (thank god, hanging in the middle bugs the hell out of me because the work goes out the window.)

There’s the log for That incident.

There’s nothing evident in the logs. You seem to be running a fairly new ATI card and your drivers aren’t the latest.

Try updating to AMD Catalyst 11.12.

I just checked and I am on 11.12 - when I installed the drivers, I went through the XFXForce website to get the most up to date drivers instead of installing off the disc. Craptastic that the logs show nothing of why things are doing what they’re doing though.

Try rolling back to Catalyst 11.6. Other AMD users have commented that this works around their current instability issues.
