double "special" cards

(brian770) #1

i have 37 of the new Nuc. winter cards, and 5 of them are doubles!!! WTF man if you already have one it should be taken out of the rotation so you can not get a repeat. OR allow us to sell them for the same fragments as a cobalt.
but only if they are doubles. in all my special cards i have about 11 doubles and 1 tripple. what the heck am i supposed to do with them???
i would like to buy a few more but am worried about getting more doubles…so i guess i wont be spending my real $$$$ with you.

2016 called and wants its gripe back.

Keep up with current events.

It’s an old issue that in the recent developer vid they said there is something in the works to address.

yes, it should be as easy as a bit check to look for a duplicate an instantly re-roll…no they haven’t implemented it…

you may be able to “fuse” cards together in the future

You get 2 guaranteed cards for every 10 elite cases you buy, and these elite cases have a 10% (if I remember correctly) chance to include an event card.

OP said they spent real money on cases and would buy more even, so I assume at least 30 of these cards are from spending real money. Nothing to be envy about

That’s a Logan Paul level humble brag.
Come back to me when two of the four cards you got during this event were f*cking Rhino cards.

It’s not that easy.

Even after a re-roll you might get another duplicate. This can send the game client in an infinite re-roll loop.

At first this might seem a theoretical scenario but there are only 198 (22x9) special loadouts and you get 2 guaranteed Nuclear Winter loadouts for €34.99. So after about €3400 you would have all of them. While this is quite some money it’s not unattainable for most working people, so with a mix of determination and insanity I’m sure a few people would actually spend that.

And once someone has all the loadouts, you need to think of some mechanic to deal with it (like allow duplicates again, deactivate the related items in the store, stop dropping special cases, …). It might be difficult though to think of something that does not violate some consumer rights in some countries.

It probably can be done one way or the other but it is not easy.

i bought 10 of the nuc. cases for real money, that means i got 27 of them from buying the “normal” nuc cases. i spent all my in game credits and all the green credits on cases, i opened 80 cases 3 different times. one of those times i got a couple silvers a few bronze and all else was lead and iron, first time i got 6 of the nuc cards and 3 golds. i know its a crap-shoot but enjoy it. the last 5 cases i got had 2 nuc. winter cards and 1 bronze, 2 lead. it just seems like it would not be difficult to run a instant comparison to whats in your inventory and remove those options from the pool.

What would be easy to implement is algorithm like that for each loadout roll:

  1. Build a temporary pool of all possible special loadouts.
  2. Remove all loadouts the player already owns.
  3. Pick a random loadout from the pool of remaining loadouts.

If the player already has all loadouts (afters spending about €3400), he will again get duplicates. This could be dealt with by modifying step 2 so that only the loadouts with maximum quantity are removed. Then the player starts getting “tripplicates” once he has duplicates for all loadouts.

So you can still get duplicates but only after spending an insane amount of money (or even insaner amount of credits).

you guys still don’t seem to understand what “random” means, if the game removes a choice, it’s no longer random

Still random not like u can choose which one u get of the left overs

Removing possibilities along the way does not make it “non-random”. Look at all the lotteries that use ball machines (as a fellow Canadian I’m sure you’ve heard of 6/49?): each ball and hence each number can only come out once, doesn’t make the whole thing any less random.

(Nail) #14

Lotteries don’t use random number generators, 6/49 has a finite number of choices, it’s not random, random would mean lotto could be 111111

You seem to equate “random” with “uses a random number generator”… There were random events before there were computers and RNG, and lotteries are the very definition of random events.

The basic concept is called randome variable which essential a function that gives you a single random number from a sample space. The sample space can for example be a value range (allowing duplicates) or a pool of values where each value gets removed once it has been used (thus preventing duplicates). The sample space can also be designed to return certain values more often, for example for each Gold loadout there are plenty of Bronze loadouts stored in the sample space.

So both DB’s loadout RNG and the lottery use random variables but differ in how the handle their sample space.
