Double defusing and repairing; how to stop it

(MrBluuy) #1

My solution to stop this is if someone who is already defusing or repairing and is faster than you (an engineer or the mechanic augment), they are unable to continue to repairing or defuse and are unable to start defusing or repairing. The option to start won’t show up and it will cancel anyone who is already repairing/ defusing. This solution should hopefully fix this so they can do better thing like protecting you.

(hawkeyeguy99) #2

So if I understand you correctly, you want to have it that whoever is the fastest get’s priority and can steal other people’s XP, even if they’d get it done faster because they are 90% through? No thank you. I honestly don’t find it that much of an issue and don’t think much development time should be spent trying to fix it right now. In the future, sure, maybe with a tutorial or something but not now.

(Press E) #3

What? But that’s already how it works. If you’re repairing as let’s say Rhino and a Proxy comes along, you stop getting XP, because the Proxy is repairing faster.

And besides, the faster player always gets repairs done faster. There is literally no situation where continuing to repair with a slower tool would be faster.

Besides, it’s not much XP anyways. Stop whining over petty things and defend your teammates so they can win instead of you getting a whopping 50 more XP. And if you want that repair XP? Play an engineer.

I’d like to suggest that if a non-objective specialist tries to interfere with an objective specialist defusing or repairing the EV, he/she get’s kicked up in the air and take maximum fall damage for big ha ha, with the Jackal Commander yelling and screaming at the player that needs to be revived for fall damage. A two second warning should be long enough to enable the player to wise up to back off as soon as an objective specialist comes around to do a better job. Further, players with the augment mechanic in their loadout should also be given middle priority against ordinary players.

I believe the intent the OP meant to say came out incorrectly. I believe what was being suggested is this:

Player 1 (Skyhammer) starts defusing bomb.
Player 2 (also Skyhammer) walks up to the bomb and tries to defuse at the same time.
This makes Player 1 not have anyone protecting him since two Skyhammers are trying to defuse.

What the OP is suggesting, I believe, is that Skyhammer being used by Player 2 shouldn’t be allowed to even see the suggestion to defuse - for it to not give the option at all [to hit F] so as to encourage them to pay attention to protecting the mission objective.

If someone has mechanic(?) augment or has an engineer they could interrupt Skyhammer used by Player 1, obviously. I’d like to see a text/ graphic pop up on the screen that clearly lets you know that someone faster is now defusing so you know right away to stop defusing.

give the 2nd one that is defusing negative xp with the text ‘being useless’

(superLobster) #7

Just have Rhino’s voice actor insulting the 2nd player hopelessly defusing until they stop lol

(frostyvampire) #8

@Hawkeyeguy99 it doesn’t work like that.
If you defused for 90% and then an engineer comes and defuses the other 10%, you get 180xp and he/she gets 20xp once the bomb is fully defused.

So changing it to make you unable to defuse at all won’t change that fact.

(pumpkinmeerkat) #9

Perhaps @Hawkeyeguy99 was referring to plants rather than defusals and repairs?

The current messaging could maybe be improved or made more obvious. Additional voice lines? Sadly, a player making this mistake will likely continue to even if the repair animation is removed.

(SnakekillerX) #10

This same topic has been discussed to death already in other threads.
The pros and cons have been listed there.

I’m too tired to debate again why this is a bad idea.

(watsyurdeal) #11

Fuck your xp, doesn’t matter when you lose cause you’re being selfish.

(OwynTyler) #12

OP just wanted some CLARITY on defusing, cuz now it says “faster teammate repair” and ppl be like “OH COOL IT SAYS FASTER - I"M SO HELPFULL”

not showing the defuse line if it’s already occupied would be much more visually understandable or something like that instead.

That’s true. Had some of these players in my team about a week ago.

They really thought that multiple players would speed up the repairing so they were repairing with 3 or 4 guys. I was baffled tbh. I asked them why they were all repairing.

One of them replied: “Because repairing goes faster that way”.

“Yeah… I’m afraid that’s not the way it works” was my reaction.

But you’re right that some people still seem to be confused by it. The mssage could be a bit more clear. Something like: “teammate already repairing” and if an engineer is repairing: “Engineer already repairing”.

On top of that (but that might be a bit more work) maybe an additional voice line like @pumpkinmeerkat suggested.

But like some people have already said here, I’m afraid that there are still going to make the mistake of trying to help while a teammate is already repairing the EV.

(hawkeyeguy99) #14

I think there’s just some MAJOR misunderstanding going on here about what I meant and about what OP meant… I may have misunderstood myself what he was suggesting, I still don’t quite know what he’s asking about.

(Ecureuil) #15

I believe I made this mistake the first games I’ve played. Then I stopped doing it but I wasn’t sure I was right. Had to come on forums to understand it was useless.

Finally, I saw the tip on loading screen, but I was around level 10. Maybe showing tips during match intro could prevent the confusion.

(Sorotia) #16

@$!# your xp, doesn’t matter when you lose cause you’re being selfish.[/quote]

This…plus if people aren’t even paying attention to their screen enough to notice someone else is repairing…then they aren’t going to be observant enough to notice they’re losing xp from trying to attempt to repair when someone better is or someone started before them.

Lowkey love it when people post threads like this because I then have reason to post this wonderful picture again, lol.

I think a single message without completion line would be more understandable for people like “teammate already repairing”, that progress bar is the most confusing part I believe

Can any mods confirm to me that this shouldn’t be flagged for abuse? I’m not asking for you to do anything, but is this something that counts as abuse?
@Amerika @Eox @RazielWarmonic

@MrBluuy
This concept already exists, it just doesn’t keep them from wasting their time. People trying to diffuse at the same time provide 2 services:

  • A meat shield
  • A backup for if you die
They aren’t entirely useless, and the system will help new players to learn better.

Here’s a tip for you:
Play on a min level 10-20 server once you can. It will reduce the number of clueless noobs.
