Doors,

I am really new at this, but how do you mkae doors?

(BaronBlabla) #2

make a brush which has the shape of a door, put a door texture on it and press shift+B (it will fit the texture so it will look nice in the end), then right click in the building screen and go to func ----> func_door* or func_door_rotating** click ‘N’ to bring up the entity editor

func_door
A function door is a sliding door which can be sliding in multiple angles.
you first have to set in what direction it’s going to move, so you set ‘‘angle’’. to know how this works; if you look at the top view from your screen, North is 90 degrees, south 270, west 180, and right 360 (or 0).
if you want to let the door go up you type in (in the key) angle and then -1 (up) or -2 (down) in the value (if you don’t do it manually in the key and value lines it will say 358 or 359 and the door will slide west)
then set the speed (between 60-100 is a good speed for a sliding door) then set the type (the sound) 1,2,3,4,5,6 or 7 and set the wait time (a wait time in seconds)

func_door_rotating,
a func door rotating is another story, (set wait time and type by yourself). The door wants to know what the angle of rotation is, how it’s going to open. So, if you want it to open with an angle of 90 degrees you type in 0 (current position) 90 (open) and 0 again (moved to original closed position). So it says, 0 90 0. now set the origin*** it’s the point of origin which is the point where it will turn around. it can look like this ‘‘64 0 128’’

*** a good way to find the right origin is to place a light exactly on the place where you want the origin to be. Open the entity editor (N) and select the light, in there it will say origin and copy that number to the doors entity editor.

Done!!!, now save and compile the map, see if there are any errors, and run it!

When mapping, the most important thing is to be able to find things out without asking.

How to make a door is covered in about a hundred tutorials, if you did a search on google, or in the forums search, you would have found the answer.

If you aren’t motivated to hunt down answers on your own, then you might as well stop now. Post when you are REALY stuck.
