doom3, SD, and the new game

@ Bongoboy, that’s the most crytic answer I’ve read in a long time! lol Congratz!

(blushing_bride) #22

I almost forgot this important message to the people at SD: I can work as a beta tester. My merits are: Have played lots of games.

me too me too

You must look for the only question in guerilla’s first post in this thread

Way to stay on topic, Bongoboy!  :drink:

After intensive research I can now confirm the rumor that SD is working on Pong 2004, utilizing the latest Doom III engine, real time raytrayzing, a compley physic system (enabeling the use of balls made of different materials such als wood, rubber or even steel), intense single player mode, massive multiplayer capabilities with up to two payers per team! The game will also ship including a level editor, allowing modders to create their own levels. I can hardly wait

(BondyBoy007) #29

have u got a release date on that senator? sounds good

(senator) #30

Apparently it will be delayed somewhat, the graphic team got into a brawl over the color of the pads and the level designers wanted to add a level were the pads are on the top and the bottom of the screen, instead of left/right which drove the coders nuts, telling the level designers that it would require a complete rewriting of the game engine. The sound developing team is still busy finding the perfect ‘ping’ sound, I’ve heard that lots of alcohol and loose girls are essential in that quest. Only the marketing teams seems to really get things going, they’ve only just demanded a bigger budget and ask whether it’ll be OK to say that this game will increase the sexual attractiveness of the player by 200% and guarantee that gorgeous sexy girls will be dying to have sex with even the most unattractive pale nerd just because he managed to get a new highscore in Pong 2004 (the TV adds should be interesting to watch  )

I just want to know the following:

  1. How many FPS will be included in the box and what will be the cost if I desire to buy more?
  2. Will the game be completely tweakable. I’d like to turn the ball white with shadows for maximum visibility and brighten up my screen considerably to maintain a minimum of 76 FPS - the point at which you can twitch your paddle back and forth quicker

Doom 3 may not do as well as we all think it will. WHY YOU ASK!? The answer is very simple. We may all look at the game and say WOW! LOOK AT THOSE GRAPHICS!. You know what MOST people say? “That s*it is NOT working on my computer!”.

The majority of gamers do not have a Radeon 9800, or a Geforce 5900. The majority of gamers are running on systems that will not be able to handle Doom 3 “The way it was meant to be played.”

Reason 2: Delay time. It has been noted that EXTREMLEY hyped games are very successful…well… if they come on time. I realize that no offical release date for Doom3 has ever been set, but “unoffical” sources said 2002…then 2003 Q1, Q2, Q3, and so on. Does anyone remember Daikatana? This game was being created by the famed John Romero (Creator of doom, along with John Carmack). Well, everybody who was anybody wanted this game. But, it was delayed TOO MUCH! Turns out, when it releaed, NOBODY WANTED IT! Hehe. Is this the fate of Doom 3?

(guerilla) #33

that was so overly dramatic it was barely worth reading. and if you’re going to try to educate us again sometime, use something in your post besides the dead obvious

I did not state the “Is going to happen,” i stated the “will this happen?” So many gamers are blinded by the fact that this game has AMAZING graphics. How about the gameplay? Mulitplayer features, Will 4 players really amaze us? Yes, Graphics make a game better, but it does not make the game.

BTW, If you want a realistic, fun, Free, FPS, play Americas Army. Its updated every 3 to 5 monthis with new maps, weapons, graphics, ect. In fact just recently it aquired Karma physics.

(guerilla) #35

yeah, did you read what i said before this stuff? I basically said “sure SP is going to wow us for a bit, but I’m in it for the longrun, and would like to know what SD is doing with their game”. i’m much more interested in the games that are going to come out of the new engine, and not so much d3 itself.

(Domipheus) #36

You do realise thier minimum specs are a ‘geforce’ and a radeon 7xxx series? Thier target remember was 30fps on a gf3 and if they have lowered the min specs a few months ago that tells me they have optimised it to a point where they are happy with that goal.

(BlackDeath) #37

That’s exactly why we will tweak it to hell! (And of course, to gain a competative advantage)

(da*Rogue) #38

I would have thought that in the wake of the publicity and player-base created by the free release of Enemy Territory there’d be a new RTCW game in the works…

(Zombie13) #39

Graphics do help a lot with gameplay these days, I mean, is a 28 poly room with a hallway connected really going to make you believe you are in an abandoned UAC facility… I dont think so

Back when Q3 was released, there wasn’t a card good enough to run it the way it was meant to be played. When Doom 3 is released, there will be cards good enough to run it the way it was intended. I think you’ve got it the complete opposite way round. Graphics cards are finaly catching up on graphics intensive games
