I think nothing will compare to the original Doom, that game was a revolution because it came at a time just after Wolfenstein 3D. Wolfenstein introduced the idea, Doom perfected the original first person shooter. While there were others before it, Doom created a whole genre.
No Doom game after that will ever come close, the only thing this new Doom can bring is the classic back, the watershed of bringing back Arena Shooters to the main stream. Stuff like Unreal, Quake, Tribes, all these games can make a huge comeback on PC, which would be a good thing imo.
Cause I think the best shooters in the genre are these Arena Style games, where realism is thrown out the window in favor of crazy fast action.
Dirty Bomb has it…but is still a bit too realistic with random spread patterns, movement hindering accuracy, etc.
I wouldn’t mind a slower ttk if meant more speed and overall a more fun experience.
But that’s just me, I’m just excited to see Doom return to it’s core, after the meh ness of Doom 3.
Brutal Doom and Project Brutality were my Doom 3.
Honestly, if you haven’t already I would advise loading up project brutality with maps of chaos and go wild. It maintains the original feel while adding in all kinds of chunky goodness. It feels like a legit sequel instead of trying to play with a flashlight.
I’m playing with Brutal Doom, and it really does make the game feel a lot more modern. Only issue is that the jump button makes it super easy to run through acid, and the ammo capacity for bullets are far too low, leading to ammo issues.
Once I’m done with Doom 1, it’s on to Doom 2, then Master Levels, Final Doom, and maybe Doom 3.
Of course Doom 4 as well.
